"Is sending winks a complete waste of time ? "
Depends what you do with them. We like winks - if someone winks at us then we delete it if they're not our type, or if they are then we wink back as a "yes, please message us".
So often though, we get a wink, we wink back and then......nothing. We then message after a few days and generally don't get a reply.

That chestnut is done to death many, many times. Fab's own FAQ says that "no reply = no thanks" and people telling us we're rude for not replying just gets them blocked.

He hasn't messaged at all, it says on someone's profile if they've messaged, there's been no messages. We wouldn't reply to a Man's profile which has photos of a Woman anyway. |

We like winks, we wink, get a wink back and then message. Saves wasting time on a personalised message when there was no chance in the first place.

Not that I message or wink much but I would use winks to show appreciation/ declare but acknowledge I might not tick each and every box being looked for.
Good feature but as women get 100's of messages a day, I doubt maybe women / couples bother you check them |

Also good for those of us with anxiety issues as we don't have to worry about the "you're not really our type" message coming back

Yeah exactly that,as I the Mrs Do actually suffer from bad anxiety and that would definitely be a bummer lol |

If you were closer we'd definitely add you to our "not really a hotlist but a list of people we'd desperately love to meet but are too shy to message so we might send them wink one day list"

I'm always surprised when couples who seem (from the outside) confident are actually quite shy. Not sure why that should be.

I don’t like generic copy paste messages, prefer to make some effort after reading a profile but this takes a long time and normally never gets a response so I assumed winks were to gauge interest before dropping a nice long message. Hmm. Maybe I’ve got this wrong! |

Use them for exactly the same purpose, if I wink first I’ll follow up with a message if it’s reciprocated… some people appear to believe it is the end of the world tho unfortunately  |

I often wink when I don’t think I really stand a chance of a reply but would still like to show appreciation of the person in the profile,. Same with gabbing pictures..
I love winks, just don’t get enough from those who I’d like too… |

Yeah we quite like winks as well - it’s a “we like your profile” sign for us…equivalent to your eyes meeting in a bar and smiling at each other, I think. If we don’t get a wink back, then we generally just leave it. If we get a wink back, we will message (in general)

As others have commented above, a wink is a general sign of interest…if I receive a wink back I will message…to me there’s a mutual interest/attraction from photos and so I’ll engage

We like a wink, we treat it as a compliment about our or the other parties profile and like a little
“hello, we are interested in you do you want to have a look at us and if you feel the same?”
If the answer is yes then we try to put some time and effort into a message. |

I'd agree with you, i use winks and a few fabbed photos if I get 1 back I would follow up with a message. A conversation starter and sign of interest. If I dont get one back no problem keep winking haha

We like winks, If we like a profile we'll wink, if they wink back we'll message.
Sometimes we do skip the winking part and just message if it's clear we match what there looking for.
We've had some good meets that have started from a wink |

That said, I read the profile and if they don’t meet single guys or im not within their age range (give a year or 2) then I don’t. |

I like a wink and send them too. As said, if the wink is recipricated then a well thought message will follow and hopefully the message will not become lost in the many messages that ladies and couples recieve, as the recipiant will recognise the name from the wink.
At least thats how i see it, not always the way however ! |

I have met people are they have sent me a wink or I have sent them one at the very start. So no they can work.
In saying that I don't look at mine anymore I think I just got out of the habit especially because at the moment I'm not doing any new meets. |

Winks are nice between couples who can show interest without risking no reply to a message if low on confidence or new..
Complete waste of everyone's time from a single, guy who needs to work much harder. |
