"Out and out swinging is probably low....we wanna meet people but have some Rules, that often causes issues which is a little bit of a Surprise !"
That is a surprise, given the boudaries you have set. Nothing too ownerous. |

Around 1.5m people in the uk replied with a yes in a survey (pro rata) However, sharing sex within friendship groups, married or otherwise, has become more common so would increase this figure substantially despite this group not identifying as swingers |

"Maybe we read you post wrong,it seemed to suggest we make it hard for ourselves, apologies if we are wrong ??"
No I'm sorry if i didn't make it clear. I'm asking how big is the swinging community. Because i sometimes walk down the street and wonder which of the other people/couples I see are swingers. |

I think there are a lot of people who tried and then stopped.
I think there are a lot of people who would like to try it but haven't.
I think there are a lot of people who are definitely going to try it but haven't yet.
I think there are a lot of people who have had non conventional sexual adventures but don't consider themselves swingers.
And of course there are those who identify as swingers and actually do swing.
I think it's quite a lot of people if I'm honest.
People are a lot less hung up than they used to be.

"0.00000005%
Ouch, thats only 3.35 people! And i've fucked more than that!
But were they all swingers?
Yes, well they weren't always before hand but definitly were after. Lol "
I think it would be less than 1%. Singles meeting singles isn’t swinging. A random threesome isn’t swinging and people experimenting isn’t really swinging so I think the number will be very low. |

"And by swinger I mean has met others or is interested in meeting others?"
I think most of the adult population have met other people, there may be some hermits who have isolated themselves from the outside world. However, people who meet other people are not necessarily 'swingers' the whole process tends to be part of normal everyday life.
As for how many are real swingers, well I would say a very small proportion, after all, in my 20s I went to parties where plenty of sex was happening often in the same room, but none of the people were swingers.
I would also say that a lot of the people on this site are not swingers, let's face it one on one meeting is run of the mill vanilla. Threesomes are so mainstream even the women's glossy mags have articles and tips. Two couples in private? Pretty mundane these days.

I'd be interested in seeing any actual research into this. I saw one study that claimed over 80% of women living in L.A had experienced at least one gangbang.
I know that isn't swinging and it's specific to one place, but if the research was correct, it indicates a very different view of the world than I'm familiar with. |

Principally because people who enjoy swinging are so discreet and secretive about their lifestyle choice, it is almost impossible to gather accurate statistical data.
Culturally a lot of people in the US have experienced wife swapping but one has to take into account a lot of demographic stats; as an activity for couples it is definitely on the up in Ireland and in GB.
Younger couples are keen to experiment with others, and I would predict that 25% would accurate over a lifetime. |

I'm not disputing your data, but were do you get the figures from? is it just your opinion (and if so, based on what?) or have you got some type of empirical data?
I'm not picking an argument, I'm actually keen to know.
I agree with your first statement and suppose it to be valid for the US too. If that's the case, how would we know that culturally in the US a lot of people have experienced wife swapping, because they would be secretive about it too.
What about all those towns in the bible belt? There too?
Which demographic stats affect the swinging population in the US? Surely the stats would be vastly different between New York city and some backwater town in the middle states?
I think you're right about there being an increase in Ireland and the UK but where does the 25% figure come from and is 25% comparable to "a lot of people" in the US?
Again, I'm not trying to be argumentative (there's no emoji for that as far as I'm aware!) I'm genuinely interested in why you've given those figures.
Cheers,

.
25% would seem way too high a figure to me too lol
Newspaper articles a couple of years ago reckoned there was maybe up to 1.5 million folks in the uk, but their definition of being a swinger was pretty broad |

Social mores are rapidly changing and my prediction is based on a lifetime experience; the number who swing frequently is growing and in the US stats date back to the origin of 'wife-swapping' in military bases in the 1950s, when personnel were away on service. |

There was a 2017 survey of UK 40-70 year olds which has the figure at 2.5% but I can’t find the original published paper (just reports of it).
I did find a paper on Canada which found: “Overall, 2.4% of all participants [survey respondents], and 4.0% of those currently in a relationship, reported currently being in an open relationship. One-fifth of participants reported prior engagement in an open relationship, and 12% reported open as their ideal relationship type. Men, compared with women, were more likely to report prior open relationship engagement and to identify open as their ideal relationship type.” |

Right. So no data then? Just a number you think is about right based on your life experience?
Thanks for that.

I think the lack of robust data around participation in swinging may be because academics are more interested in why people do it and what the consequences are of doing it (health or otherwise). Therefore, the research is qualitative rather than quantitative. I’m always amused with the ‘Sydney University’ disclaimer on profiles given the large numbers of studies about sex and swinging suggests there lots of us talking to University researchers (and why not, it’s something wider society should understand better). |

It's difficult to know a percentage. There are certainly thousands who go to the many UK clubs on any weekend. There must also be several hundreds who have a private meet or go to a party. Then there's all the swingers at home who just swing occasionally. It all adds up to a lot. |

Pretty low. I've been in six serious long term relationships and only my current partner has been up for it. And when I was looking to date if I brought the idea up was pretty much blanked by most. |

The number is probably higher than we suspect
We've got couple friends that talk about trying swinging but haven't as they are worried how it will effect their relationship
We've got ña friend lived as thrupple before settling into a traditional couple & marriage
We've got couple friends we suspect have fucked other people within our friendship group
& we've got friends that cheat behind their partners backs and we believe if their partners knew (actually they'd probably kick them to the curb) but if they'd had the conversation before cheating I think the wives would be up for some extra dick too, so swinging could have beem an option for them |

Many shades of grey here. And no not the 50 shades kind. I think if you counted all the nearly variations you might get to 10%, but out of that number you mught have 2% active swingers. So about 1 in fifty. |

I'm sorry but a threesome no matter how mundane, is swinging. As is a foursome. Anything more than two people is swinging IMHO. |

No it isn’t. Swinging traditionally involves people in relationships. 3 friends or strangers having sex isn’t swinging. |

It is only my opinion, just like your comment/definition it is an opinion. It doesn't mean you're correct. I disagree with your definition. |

You can’t really disagree with THE definition of a word. It is the act of exchanging spouses for sex. |
