Are winks pointless?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi all, I would be interested to hear peoples opinions on this.
Personally I've sent winks thinking that they are a way of breaking the ice/letting someone know that you are interested in them.
However given the fact that there are so many single males on here contacting cpls and females, does anyone actually check them or do you simple receive too many to look/think that it's a lazy way of making contact?

I think men probably get more out of them than women and couples.
By nature, men dont get a lot of messages or winks, and I mean that when compared to couples and females who get shed loads.
So as a man, if someone winks at me, I will acknowledge it with a message, which may in turn lead to something. If not, I just carry on as normal. |

That's pretty much how I view winks received as well! |

Never bothered to send any. Most folks profiles that I have read state that they will delete and block anyone sending a wink, so yes, I think they are a total waste. |

We check winks and if we like the look of the person will wink back. I imagine that single guys must get tired of sending messages so we're never offended by winks it's how they comport themselves afterwards that counts. |

They are useless for single guys who want to meey women or couples. Apart from that i've spoken to and met up with people where the first contact was a wink. |

Personally iv had meets that have started from sending a wink so don't think they are a bad thing! But can understand that alot of couples+ladies get loads of them so may just delete them but for a single male as myself they are good |

I have to be in a pretty generous mood to send someone an unsolicited message, so I use winks a fair bit.
However I can fully understand why some people don't bother with them. |

occasionally we'll look at winks, sometimes it highlights profiles and we'll read them.
If we get a wink, we will wink back. it shows your interested, but we would expect a message after.
Some people see it as lazy, but we just see it as another form of communication.
Each to their own and all that

I decided sometime ago to wink and send a message... I appreciate couples/ladies get bombarded so I hope both go someway to show I'm more than interested.. |

Well I like getting winks....always nice to know that someone is interested in your profile!
If I like the look of the profile I'll send a "thanks for the wink" message and then see where it goes. Really can't understand why some get so wound up by them.

Used to be on another site where they were generally used as a first contact by most people, then messages followed if their was mutual winking! x |

I get a ton of winks from couples, friends invites too, I'd be flattered if my profile didn't clearly state at the very beginning that I have no interest in them. Needless to say, they get deleted swiftly. |

I'll look at my winks occasionally - if the avatar picture or strapline catches my eye I'll look at the profile and have on occasion winked back if I liked the look of him/her/them - that to me is putting the ball back into his/her/their court and if they then sent me a message that indicated they'd read my profile then I'd respond, other than that I don't bother with them and I think I've only sent pity winks after forum requests |

I look at my winks and friendship requests, not very often admitted but if I saw a wink and liked the profile id wink back
Im not into allowing strangers access to my face pic and other friends only pics without at least some interest (usually in mail)
but i do look at both, so i dont think they are useless |

It looks like there is a quite a divide on 'The Winks Question' between singles and couples. When we first joined, I had only swung as a single guy and I HATED the things! I never sent them before, and would delete immediately any we got.
In the past few months I have mellowed somewhat, and now I take them as someone just saying they like the look of our profile.
If... and ONLY if... we like the look of their profile, we'll wink back. If we don't hear from them, then fair enough - that's as far as it goes.
But... I would never see them or send them as a way of introducing ourselves. When I do that, it's a message, and if the other couple have face pics in their public gallery (why????) we attach ours to the intro message.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
I had a wink off a guy today who was single (gasp), can accommodate (GASP), and is local to me (faints), and who had put on his profile that he winks so as not to send a pointless message. If I was interested I was to wink back. I thought that was a neat way of doing it. |

Personally, the 'lazy' argument gets right up my nose.
In my case, it's precisely because I'm *not* lazy that I send winks. I'm a busy individual and I don't have time to waste composing multiple tailored messages that only end up straight in the trash.
Winking back will definitely get you a message in response, if that's what you'd like. |

I would sometimes prefer a wink than a message to initiate contact
I can ignore it without feeling any guilt, and if it comes from a fabulous profile then the doors are open for me to either wink back or send a message myself
Saves a lot of time in the long run for me |

That's exactly how I see the purpose of a wink. Have been guilty of sending a few of my own... |

Will have a look and if I like the profile I'll wink back and see what happens. Have sent the odd one or two as well and had responses from them. I will delete if the profile is the usual 'ask me if you want to know anything'or 'will fill in later', but a decent profile will get a response x |

I have to admit, as a single guy I never sent any cos they never really elicited a response.
As part of a couple we get far more winks and we both look. When we get a wink we'll have a look at the profile we will wink back and wait for them to mail us. We will mail straight back if we really wanna meet. |

I don't normally send them as I know a lot of people prefer a message however this does annoy me as I think if used correctly they can be good. Like already mentioned you wink someone to say hello I like the look of you(profile), they wink back meaning the same then you start messaging. This would save a lot of time and at least you know the other person likes your profile for starters.
Maybe if enough people start doing this it will catch on. |

We're not bothered if someone winks us tbh. It shows they've read (or most likely, just looked at the pictures ) our profile. Most guys, after a while on this site, get fed up of sending mails, giving a description of themselves or what they are looking for from others etc. We'd rather receive a wink than a generic message they've sent a thousand others, those we delete without hesitation.
We've sent winks from our couples profiles and had nothing back, sent winks from this profile and got nothing back ... but when we do get a reply then .... well read the veri's |

I check them as its a facility here to use, plus I'm from an era where a wink was considered flattering and a way to make first contact.
Has to be better than the 'fancy a fuck?' messages!
What harm can they do?
You don't have to look if you don't want to,I really don't see what the fuss is about? |

Totally agree!
And those who moan about winks being lazy are the same ones who respond by using + instead of saying totally agree, how lazy! |

I must admit on using them occassionally, but it's not my only form of communication. I prefer my personality to come out in a special message, not a copy and paste shit one |

Thought we'd add out thoughts and not be too lazy by just adding a +1
Like with so many issues there are probably as many opinions as there are members, but in our experience iis as follows.
I (S) love the concept and idea of a wink. Eyes meeting in a busy bar, they wink, you fancy them and wink back and things start from there, but it hardly ever seems to work like that on here.
The large majority of winks we've had fall into the following two categories;
1. This has happened with both guys and couple to us - You get a wink, look at the profile and wink or message back and either get no reply (why wink in the first place!!) or an immediate friend request. Not really the idea to us.
2. These tend to be, but are not exclusively from guys - you get the wink and when you check out the profile all they have is a one or two liner and/or a silhouette or cock shot. How are you supposed to make any judgement on that basis??
We have a limited time to play and to spend on here and consequently we prioritise and as a result we will always give more time to the nicely constructed and worded message. If that means we will or have miss out on the meet of our dreams then that's our problem I guess.

Hmmm. Sending winks is lazy.
However, contributing nothing more to a forum thread than '+1' definitely isn't lazy.
Go figure.

I personally block and delete about once a week.
I think winks are pointless but appreciate some like them: I'm just not one of them. |
