Hi All.
I would like to gauge the wider communities oppinion.
So recently for a meet, a well verified couple was coming to mine for a meet, they asked for £10 towards fuel as they felt it was only fair due to them coming to me rather than I joining them.
I was a tad shocked at this.
Has the financial crisis really come to this?
What are your thoughts. |

I know times are hard these days but I would think that any couples or whatever have got a cheek asking you to do that. I travel all over the place to meet and i would never dream of asking anyone that |

Next thought, is that it sort of shows that they are seriously coming out to meet with you and not messing with you. Plus you won't have to give them the £tenner unless they turn up and if they turn up, the fun your gonna have will probably be worth it. |

I once met up with a couple at a hotel and we agreed to split the bill -- I was surprised they actually paid 2/3 of it rather than 1/2 as they were engaged and lived together.
But, when I dropped them off later on I didn't ask them for fuel money. In fact, over many years of online shenanigans, I don't think anyone has asked for or offered me fuel money.
However, it's different times and if it's a long trip I can't see the problem -- it would surprise me, but I don't think it would be unfair. |

That just seems really cheap especially if you were accommodating and would really put us off. I know different for a single man and £10 may be worth it for some fun but if a couple came to us and asked for that we would cancel the meet or say the house cost £100 for the evening and we’ve spent £20 on drinks. So £60 and you owe us £50. |

I don't think it's unreasonable in all honesty, especially if you're paying on them arriving.
Everyone's finances are different.
I'd ask the question of 'Would you be prepared to spend time and money travelling to get there and find out they've disappeared'
Seems odd to ask beforehand, but for the sake of £10, if it guarantees they turn up, it's money well spent and shows a level of mutual respect. |

I think that sharing travel costs is fine. It just shouldn't be a money making opportunity. If they opt to drive a Rolls, that's their choice - they should be looking for a reasonable expenses share only. You'd be giving a contribution towards fuel costs, not a full subsidy of the cost of owning and operating it, IMO. |

Well verified doesn’t mean they are decent people.
It can just mean they fuck anything that says yes.
I would never expect anyone to pay for my travel and I would offer to help cover others costs.
If they asked then I would just wonder if they wanted to meet me of if I was just a wallet |

I'd never, ever ask for money for travel, I did a 160 mile round trip and the thought never entered my head. I chose to travel that distance, it's on me, if I wasn't happy with paying out I'd choose local meets only. Personally, op I think they're a bit cheeky and I would have had the initial shocked reaction you had. |

What are your thoughts. " who initiated the meet, you or them, if they did then its their choice to drive to you |

I think it's a bit cheeky of them to ask for money just because they travelled to you. It's their choice to travel so I don't see why you should have to pay for that. You're accomadating them if they can't afford the fuel than they shouldn't go. I can almost guarantee they wouldn't ask a woman to pay them fuel costs.
Being well veried doesn't mean they won't take advantage of someone.Anyone who will ask for money like that I would personally avoid even if it's just a tenner.
Any meet I've had we both traveled and both paid our share for hotels or food and our own fuel bills to get there. And even if I go to someone's house I wouldn't expect them to cover my fuel. I just wouldn't go if I couldn't afford it. |

I would be surprised and go no further. Also it's against site rules to ask for expenses.
My thinking is if I agreed to meet a friend for coffee I wouldn't ask for a contribution to my fuel. Why is this any different |

"If the OP is hosting though then kd imagine hes had to have a proper good clean of his house, got some snacks in etc... then deal with the mess afterwards. Worth more than £10 of fuel money!"
Spot on - hosting is not free either in time or money. Much easier to just pitch up than get house ready. Also for example washing sheets/towels after, perhaps heating up a hot tub. That could be £10 on its own. In winter perhaps warming house a touch more than normal etc. Seriously anybody asking us for £10 can say goodbye. Luckily never happened so far. |
