So after watching a netflix show, C has expressed an interest in rope play. After searching out some strong and soft rope, we had a go but need to learn it safely. Any tips or pointers guys and gals?

Yup
I’d suggest looking at TheDuchy.com as a starter
Make sure you have some EMT shears to hand at all times and do your homework on nerve routes through the body so you don’t compress anything you shouldn’t.
What rope did you get - not all rope is created equal! |

Check if there is a peer rope near you.
If you don't want to leave the house.
"Taken from another post to which I contributed.
Books
Most have a sections on safety and choice or rope.
Two of those books were written by the Knotty Boys,. One is "Showing You The Ropes". The books are not my thing but people like them and are worth checkling if you like pretty rope. Unfortunately YouTube has removed most of their videos.
Although I am into Japanese style rope, rope is about fun and can be about sexy times. To that end I like Chantra Rose's "Bondage for Sex. You can find her in action online on porn sites in her domination of women videos "Chanta's Bitches"( not for the fainthearted).
Other books I would mention are:
Lee Harrington's "Shibari You Can Use"
Midori's "The Seductive Art Japanese Bondage"
Lord Morpheus' "Bondage Basics'
Pete Riggs *Rope Bondage The Smart Way"
Jay Wiseman "Basic Ripe Bondage"
If tying men is your thing I would recommend
,Stephen Niederwieser's "Tie Me Up!
For rope bottoms:
Evie Vanes "Better Bondage Every Body"
Clover's guide for rope bottoms and rope models
If you want a good holistic book in bondage and D/S and don't mind a long read, Mistress Couple's "Ultimate Guide to Bondage" would be worth a look.
If you want videos the makers of rope deGiotta, and also Twisted Monk used to separately have videos on Vimeo and YouTube. There is also The Duchy.
Crash Restraint has a good syllabus but a number of the links are dead.
I recommend The Rope Podcast.
In addition to the previous post: Esinem has online tutorials. as has Anatomie has videos, as has bondagetuition on YouTube.Ebi Mcknotty is worth looking up."

Midlands peer rope runs in Xtasia on a certain Sunday each month by a couple of friends of ours.
If you can make the journey it would be worth going if only to see the art of the possible.

I would also add:
As a general rule it is best to learn from someone who is experienced. Understanding tension is important and the purpose of ties can be critical. I was recently at a peer rope where a couple tried to use a decorative hip harness for a suspension and gave the peer rope team a scare of their lives. They then had to explain the whys and wherefores. A few months ago I went on an erotic rope workshop at anatomie. It was led by someone who practices in Japan. He solved 4 of my rope issues in the first hour. He has book which is the Rope Kamasutra.
Back to info.
many recommend Shibari Study which is a paid resource.
Miumi-U Teaches Japanese is a recommended book.
Other books are "Shibari" by Phillippe Boxis;
There are Douglas Kent's books, but because they are out of print they are becoming stupidly expensive, and they are old school.
"Bondage' David La Greca It has a good philosophical side
If philosophy is your thing "Discovering Kinbaku' Zetsu Nawa is worth a look.
If history is your thing the podcast and associated material of the Kinbakunomicon by Faviola is excellent. As is the "The Beauty of Kinbaku" by Master K.
There is a documentary based in London starting at the Flying Dutchman (another site lost to us) filmed 2010 to 2014 by Bob Bentley (although now dated the scene has changes hugely) " The Pleasure of Rope' clips on YouTube.
For a different take on the history of shibari you can search for Midori's online commentary "
The History & Myths of Japanese Bondage"
Unfortunately due to the fact we now live in religious centric reactionary world (I don't normally mix rope and pokitics) that controls the financial system. Websites perceived to be promoting sex are not provided banking facilities or have them taking way. There used to be an excellent site with how to tie videos from famous Japanese riggers that had to close down last year because it had banking facilities withdrawn.
Please support providers and also teachers of kink, especially rope.
Rope done badly can cause serious harm.

Thanks, to be honest I don't do YouTube for rope although over the years there is more information (which reminds me Bondage Tuition on Youtube is good) most rope on YouTube has become sanitised. I am also not embarrassed to admit I don't do tiktok or Instagram yet.
I was interested in seeing the show that incorporated rope, to know the style of rope that interested OP because rope comes in different styles. Also to see if there was a good kinky show worth watching. The last one that I heard about was the second season of "Bonding" and that was a couple of years ago.

Nottingham is a good place to learn rope, you have Nottingham Rope there which is still going. It also puts on events. Pre-covid I attended a number of courses held by Nottingham Rope. The "fetish site that can't be mentioned" would be worth checking out for it.
Good luck |
