Why do people say this? We have had multiple messages from different people (mostly men but the occasional couple) saying they want to be our play toy and we can do "anything" to them.
Now coming from a more kinky background, that expression is a big red flag for us. It usually means said person has no idea what they want, has no boundaries and has a potentially dangerous mindset. With that in mind it's a massive turn off for us.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does it really mean "anything"? Or am I taking it too literally?

This would not make me nervous if I knew I was speaking to someone experienced, however rarely have we found that to be the case. Often its people saying "it's my dream to be..." Or "I've watched all the pron so anything goes"
