found an old phone the other day when clearing up a bit and a spare sim card, so decided to use it for fab only. Wondering if this is something that's common or not?

Ummm, not that we’re aware.

We just use telegram. No phone numbers required and you can set up the chat/delete/block if you’re the admin

No real cons to it that we’ve found for these purposes

When we was active we used a spare phone with a pay as you go sim.
