Have the press 'got it in' for Fabswingers?

Jump to: Newest in thread

stoke on trent

After three stories featuring fabswinges in three consecutive weeks in the Scottish press

1. Swingers Ball cancelled

2. Swingers 'outed' by press

3. Copper on Swingers site in uniform

It now seems like the national press is having a go at us too

Daily Mail today:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2203266/Mother-39-horrified-swingers-website-declaring-love-blindfolds-leather-threesomes-knowledge.html

(guess that link OK site rules say links to national newspapers etc are allowed)

Heavens... what will next weeks story be!!

And why the sudden surge in bad press for Fabswingers when we are all here just minding our own business?

Or is it just a matter of 'any advertising is good advertising'

Makes us wonder though if all this will just cause a big influx of nosey wannabies and timewasters, or worse still, those looking to 'out' local people (friends relatives) that they know.

I posted this in another thread but it still applies here.

The press are not having a go at swingers or this site in particular.

It's low-hanging fruit.

Lots of people on here just make it too easy for the sensationalist press by being fast and loose with their privacy like showing face pics or in this case, a work uniform.

If you post face pics or information which makes you identifiable on the internet, you have to expect some comeback, somewhere along the line.

Yes but the woman in the Daily Mail story on this thread did not even know she had a profile on this site!

We do have face pics on our profile but that's purely because we don't believe we are doing anything wrong and so have nothing to hide

LOL like one of the swingers pay sites is trolling Fab?

We'd doubt that as this just attracts publicity to Fabswingers, whether wanted or not

The daily mail story was actually from before all the others. That one's about 6 weeks old.

That link is dated September and I'm pretty certain was discussed at the time on here.

Sorry yes you are right it's from September. As we say todays date at the top of the page we mistook it for new. Besides we were on holiday at the time (in September)

To be honest, this is a news story because someone has placed this lady's details on a web site that she doesn't wish to appear on, and throw in the mixture of a hedonsitic lifestyle and it's a perfect news story.

The root cause of it though has nothing to do with the website, but someone in the locallity of this woman, perhaps known to her, who for some reason has a grudge against her. As the Police have taken no action, presumerably that'll be the end of the matter.

But the woman in the Daily Mail link, posted identifiable information about herself onto facebook.

Someone then used that information and used it for nefarious purposes by making a false profile here. Despicable actions granted but could have easily been prevented by not uploading any identifiable information about yourself to the internet.

Thus endeth today's lesson on internet security.

I shall watch out for revisions of the 'Sydney University' warning to now include members of the British (and foreign) press.

Whilst some readers may be undoubtedly outraged, however, I should think that the majority will either miss the story or just glance over it and not give it a second thought.

Some may read it and think 'ooh, i'll give that a whirl myself'

It is easy to become paranoid when you feel that someone or something is pointing a finger at you or your lifestyle.

But keeping it in context, the fact is that for the majority, todays news is tomorrows history : read, forgotten and now used to line the cats litter tray.

But what i didn't understand at the time was, how was the lady in question able to access her fab account? If it was uploaded by someone else, how did she know the password to access the site?

Doesn't say she accessed her account...

She saw it through a link she was given...

She would have to be registered to the site to be able to see the profile.

Maybe she set up an account to _iew the profile. The same thing happened to my friend (which is how I came to learn about this site lol) someone she went to school with messaged her on facebook saying 'why ya not messaging me back on that site, don't be shy' she didn't know what he was on about, he eventually told her so I set up an account just to _iew that profile. That was back in Jan and I checked it the other day and the profile is still being used (luckily her photo has been taken down though), she doesn't have any verifications funnily enough!!!

My friend went to the police but there was nothing they could do.I know I could just report the profile but want to try find out first who is doing this to my friend

Just sensationalism, do you imagine for a minute that journalists live lives as pure as the virgin mary's was supposed to have been? They are reputed to drink like fish and will probably include a higher than average proportion of swingers and adulterers themselves. The owner of The Daily Express also publishes top shelf porn mags.

Newspaper owners know sex sell papers (look at the old News of the Screws) and we are an easy target.

Aren't the privacy settings automatically set to "allow un-registered members to _iew profile"? Or if not automatically then this is an option which can be chosen so she might have been able to see at least the profile text without being a member.

What always makes me laugh when the press run one of their 'scoops' about anything like this is the fact that if you turn towards the back of the papers you will find, 'escorts' adverts for wash and wank clubs, 'exotic massages' (in other words a quick rub down with baby oil and then 'extras'...so called 'psychic' lines, chat and flirt numbers etc etc...the newspapers make a fortune from these add..double standards or what????

Quite. The more everyone dissected that story, the more it fell apart tbh. Strange how it's not resurfaced since. Or maybe not....

That depends on the individual users privacy settings...

I've just logged out and read the forums without being logged in... Pics are blurred out and the first letter of the usernames are missing..

Clicking on your profile gets a screen saying "profile available to registered users only" ... but clicking on the fem below the post I've quoted shows her whole profile (minus the first letter of her username)

Off to double check on my own privacy settings just in case

Yes you are right....it isn't set to automatically not show , you have to set it.

They would be able to see the text but not pictures. I stupidly assumed most people set it to not show.

At the end of the day sex sells no matter how we look at it we know we are doing nothing wrong and all consenting adults and while the media want to put us down as immoral, dirty and seedy then it will sell.

I remember the couple who went on this morning a well balanced article and both sides of the story. We need more of this than the swinger bashing that we get now.

It isn't worth getting het up about.
