I’ve been going to the gym for 10 years and I can count on one hand the amount of conversations I’ve had with the opposite sex. A lot of my friends and family are regular gym goers and none of them have ever pulled in a gym.
Most people lead busy lives and have a set amount of time to get in the gym and get out. They aren’t there to socialise or be bothered. |

We both have our eye on a girl but not sure about etiquette and whether it would cross a line making it awkward going forward.
Everyone’s a bit flirty with us to a degree but as they know we’re together it doesn’t seem to go too far.
Some of the singles seem very friendly with one another but we’re not sure to what extent… |

There a few I'd like to. But my time at the gym is short so focus on working out.
But I was late for work once because I couldn't hide an erection. So had to stay on the leg extension till it subsided. But with that girl on the lat pull down machine and the way her ass enveloped the seat......I was there a while. |

Unless I was getting overt signals, I wouldn't chance it. Some people feel insecure in the gym as it is, I wouldn't want to make them feel like they have eyes on them and play into it. |

Overt signals is right. Be absolutely clear and careful. I think because we are swingers we forget other people are not as open-minded as us and it is easy to misread a smile as meaning “fancy a fuck”.
Saying that, sometimes the signals seem so clear that it would be a shame to not have a go.
A few years back (just before Covid) Mrs B was member of a gym. She was on “nodding/smiling hello” terms with a few other women in there and after a while a girl in her early 20s started chatting each time they went.
Anyway one day in the changing rooms after a workout and shower Mrs B could feel her staring at her and thought “hello!” So she took longer to get dressed than normal. Still this girl was looking and them she said to Mrs B “I cannot believe you have had a child, your body is amazing” Mrs B responded with “really? You think?” And there was a bit of back and forth, joking about hard work in gym, not easy etc with the girl even saying something like “your bottom is so tight” Lots of eye contact and smiling, laughing.
Mrs B took the plunge and said “have a feel if you want, I’d enjoy that!”
Things went a bit embarrassed and frosty and Mrs B never saw that girl at the gym ever again!
So she will never do that ever again. Stick to proper swinger clubs! |

when I did used to go I can't say I paid much attention to who else was there. Went in with my headphones on did my workout and left. The only interaction I had with anyone else was just to ask are you done with that. |

No you're not the only ones. We go to the gym, exercise then come home. Our eyes may wander, a bit of people watching but that's it. We joke about a couple of a similar age to us being Swingers. We wouldn't use "who's nearby" though, we're far too discreet! |

It's not a complete no no to be friendly at the gym.
And that can lead places.
But you need to be aware that people are possibly in a different mindspace than Asda, Starbucks or a nightclub.
Maybe this is their reset button from a shitty day. Maybe they are self conscious. Or maybe they are super strict about test times.
And maybe they are fed up with being oggled at.
So whatever you choose to do, do it with empathy and consideration. And be aware how you tar coming across may be three shades darker than you think you are.
Most of the above reactions are because a large percentage of people cant read the room and end up being a perv. There is a great thread from yesterday where you sense the OP couldn't get the tone right if he tried. |

No, I put headphones in and go to my gym place and dont really register what is going on around me, I dont interact with anyone really. Only on occasion when I've been asked for a spot or advice.

Pure Gym…. 2 years barely met anyone. People just want to train not socialise
Other gyms are much more social , if you have classes, pool, sauna,,jacuzzi definitely find people going on the same days/times. I have a group of friends , about 15 of us now all from my gym in just a few months , some very close friends and quite a bit of flirting going on but now the dilemma is spoiling the friendships by taking it further |

Depends what gym you go to, there can be some very forward women, I know from experience & men just hound women anyways in there that’s a given ! Horribly uncomfortable, worse when you catch people or they offer to come spot for you etc...
Like no, if I wanted that I'd ask, if I'm on my own I keep to weights I know I can 100% manage, if I'm lifting something that I suspect I'll need someone to spot me, I go with a friend or it's at my PT session...
As for the OP... I potentially have a hook up with another client of my PTs, but we have social nights out etc and that's how I got chatting with him (and he's on here) |

I am older a remember gyms when no women attended.
Great to see confidence that women have now using “traditional men equipment” without being intimidated.
I will see a sexy woman in the gym for what she is. A sexy woman. However, that would be the same outside the gym environment.
Personally, I like the gym to not not have to interact with anyone, de-stress from work and feel better.
What bugs me is people messing around with phones, taking pictures of themselves and generally getting in the way of me training.
BAN all phones I think.
