Now to be fair, 9 times out of 10 we ignore winks anyway so this is just idle observation. We preffer the direct message approach as it us. However as of late we've noticed we are getting winked from accounts (couples or single fems) with no info or photos. They're verified but there's nothing to check out.
On the other hand that odd occasion we have been tempted by a profile (with photos and info) that winked a lot don't respond to the first message we send. We don't phone it in either with a "hi how or you". We tend to write something based on what we've seen and read that's respectful and dick pic free.
It's not that we want to sound like we are complaining. We're just curious as to "what's the point" of winking if it's not to have the other party or parties check you out and initiate contact?

Your entire post is exactly our experience with winks! All the way to sending well thought out messages and getting no reply. We never really understood either!  |

there's nowt so queer as folk. It's each to their own,the same as folk who wink us we wink them back and that's all that happens. Cant force anyone to do anything although I wish there was a turn off function for winks. Can do it for fabbing pics. |

Currently experiencing this live! Received a wink from a stunning lady (her thumb must of slipped) however after 2 or 3 messages I've been left on read I'm not chasing I just find it strange and the conversation was normal just getting to know one another ahh well...plod on I guess! |

People use the wink in different ways.
I think one of the ways is to give your profile the thumbs up.
I agree with the op though in wondering if they thought they'd get a wink back when there's no pics for me to perv at |
