Why bother sending a wink ?

Like many others on here, we receive a number of winks. The irritating part is that at times the person who has sent the wink has hidden their profile. So that beggars the question, why bother sending a wink if you have hidden your profile. Nothing is going to happen other than wasting their own and our time. Surely they have realised that |

I quite like winking as a ‘I like your profile and you/them, but no interest in messaging due to distance or what they seek etc’
Or a ‘break ice, not sure if I’m what you seek but wink and they can message, or most likely I may follow with a message’

We think that sometimes a person winks at you and if you don’t respond in a nano second then they assume you’re obviously “up your own arse” and block you.
Then you get the hidden profile message. |

We like a wink to start as if we don't hear anything back then we know there is no interest and not to bother wasting time writing messages. For someone to send a wink who has no profile! Well that is plain stupid! |

Winks on fab is one of the pointless things they have in my opinion,
I don't send them and I've never replied to them, You fab a pic because you like it sometimes that can be a conversation starter or just send a message |

We like winks but we are a million miles from anyone so I doubt the blind horse would even find us. Absolutely love that the myth about carrots helping you see in the dark was spread by the Uk government to hide the existence of radar. Anyway very happy here and thanks for an interesting thread. |

The thread title should be "why bother winking whilst hidden", yes indeed winks don't show up when you get winked at by a hidden profile.
This happened to me once, got an email notification for it, but didn't realise she was hidden. Got the cold shoulder when she unhid her profile a few months later as though I deliberately blanked her. |

Dont really see the point in sending them a pm after a wink.
Cant see why they cant send a pm and see where it goes from there, than expect a reply from a wink. |

I think winks can work very well.
Profile 1 sees someone they like the look of, maybe they're not quite sure they fully fit the criteria of profile 2.
Profile 2 takes a look at profile 1, likes it and therefore winks back, giving profile 1 the go ahead to message.
Over the years and profile changes, we've had a few great meets that started with a wink.
I agree though, sometimes I've no idea what they hope might attract us, either profile is hidden or no pictures or bio.

I’d block winks if I could. If you’re that interested say hello! Worst that can happen is you’ll still get ignored lol x |

I've stopped deleting them as then they can't wink me again. If someone winks that catches my eye, then I'll send one back. That's about as far as I take it.  |

I don't get it either, surely sending a wink is in hope of the recipient having a peek at your profile so why hide it when you just might get a return wink which in turn is as I see it an invite to drop a message. |

Blimey, there some negativity over something so trivial. If you don’t like winks, don’t click on the ‘who’s winked at you button’. Boom, there you go, no time wasted, and a microbe of angst gone from your life.

To me or feels those threatening to block anyone that winks, it's very controlling in my opinion.
There are several ways to communicate here, what suits one may not suit another, but jeez, to block because another uses an aspect of this site.

Ignore the winks section, there may be people in there you could possibly get along with very well, they may decide a wink wasn't enough and go on to message, leading to lots of joy.
But blocking them because they chose to use a part of this site that you prefer not to do, that's stealing your own joy placing such negativity upon a site based around fun and enjoyment. |

I tend to wink, but I have my face on my profile so people can make a judgment quickly.
If people wink back (they do occasionally ) them I follow up with a message to say thanks and introduce myself.
Seems crazy that people with no profile photo would wink |

I send more and more winks these days, yes its a bit lazy but its more about breaking the ice plus my sanity has improved because there is nothing more frustrating than seeing a well thoughtout message being not being read or deleted, a wink shields you from that  |

Probably count on one hand the winks I've sent in the couple of years on this account. The closest I can compare is a smile across a dance floor. Something about their profile I liked I guess. A little complimentary too. |

Its a feature I don't use
You can turn off fab for pictures , visibility on profile views and there maybe other features you can turn off, message filters apply to various things, might be worth admin giving an option to turn off the wink feature  |

I once met a guy after a wink 
Because when I followed the wink (link?) I got to a great profile with great pics. He was just my type. He winked me to draw attention to his profile and it worked. He knew what he was doing and in this case the wink feature works very well?
That was literally the only time. Because, yes, soooooo many winks come from crappy blank or hidden profiles, and it is so absolutely pointless!

Completely get that! I wonder if you have any non fab friends who are feeling like trying something new and just treat it as a night down the pub! Good luck and have fun! You might find winks successful but, a nerve wracking social may be much more enjoyable and quite a buzz! |
