Used to buy mine from a book shop in Digbeth and also the Birmingham market.
VHS tapes, I bought from car boot sales.
Me and a mate figured out how to copy VHS tapes. Unfortunately my recorder had a habit of chewing up tapes. Had to apologise to a video shop, when it decided to eat Young Lady Chatterly video....and pay, I think £25 to replace the video. |

I found my dads tape in the electric meter cupboard - I guess he thought it was a safe bet that no-one would be interested in household duties like flicking switches - that's a man's job. It said "Grace Jones" on the label, but it certainly wasn't her on the screen. I remember bookmarking the exact position he had left it and all that stuff that you do to stop from being sprung, but not being fully able to enjoy it for fear the tape would get chewed or stuck in the machine! Of course the real irony is that I would have got into trouble for looking at "filth", even though it was his!!! |

Anywhere lorry drivers parked up was a certainty for finding porn in the bushes or bins. Obviously didn’t went to get caught with them at home. There was almost a class based nature to porn mags back in the day. Mayfair, expensive paper, articles on travel and posh cars to flick straight past. Then your more mid market like Knave. Then a bit later, more downmarket like Razzle and Escort which were more my cup of tea as 13 year old. Then there were the David Sullivan owned ones like Whitehouse which purported to be proper hardcore but were a complete con. I still remember the letters pages extolling the virtue of the terrible sex films Sullivan made back then claiming they were the hardest porn ever seen in Britain despite having no sex in at all! If you were very lucky you would find one of real German or Dutch mags that had actual sex but that was a very rare thing. And all these years later I end up here. I blame those pesky lorry drivers! |

Ha ha! I (Mr) had a little porn copying business going as a teen. My best mate and I linked up our VHS machine and copied porn tapes rented off a bloke with a car boot full. We took orders from school mates. Never got caught and made a tidy profit! |
