Pregnancy isn't an issue. Mainly down to what's out there that can be caught. Not everyone out there who says they are tested regularly actually do get tested. Hence why I will only do so with a long term partner. |

People shouldn't be deluded about bareback being a risk. Nor can anyone be trusted 100%, you just can't know for certain.
But the risks are lower than a lot of people fear and make out. We've played bare only for years and have spoken to many others that play bare and are way more sexually active than us (hundreds or thousands of sex partners) and never caught anything. Same for some sex workers we've spoke to. Infection rates in the UK are pretty low, and each STD has a transmission rate which for many is quite low again. So it's not a high risk, but STDs aren't a myth either so shouldn't be ignored.
It comes down to how much risk your happy to accept like most things in life. I'd argue cycling on the road, motorbikes, scuba diving, skydiving, etc. are probably more risky.
Pregnancy is the biggest risk given contraceptives have a 0.1 - 14% failure rate depending on what you use (and how well).
It's worth remembering that condoms have a 4% pregnancy failure rate and also don't stop STDs 100% either. So they mitigate risk and are sensible to those wishing to stay as safe as possible. But many think they're a perfect solution which they're not.
Lastly who uses protection for oral? Basically no one. It's a lower risk activity, but you can still catch stuff from doing it.
Lots to consider and debate. There is no right and wrong answer. It's simply up to the people having sex with each other to decide what they're happy doing, plus any attached partners. |
