I usually tell the truth. I was browsing, had a look at their profile. Liked what I saw, thought they there hot, or liked the sound of them. Then I say hello. Sometimes I'm lazy and ask if they fancy a chat |

Nothing wrong with a "hi" message as an opening one it is what follows that matters.
We have had some really well crafted opening messages which have obviously taken them months to write because the follow up message has been "wanna fck."
There is no magic message sometime you can use a profiles status update to start a conversation, other times just introduce yourself, what you like and what you offer, other times just a plain hello will work.

I haven't sent one since the beginning of last year so every conversation since has been initiated by others. Usually in connection with a forum thread and most times they jump in almost mid conversation as if we've chatted before and I've found that's a relaxed approach rather than long introductions. |

I'd say firstly read there profile and all of it, if it says NO SINGLE GUYS then don't send a message, you may also find you have to either start with or in the title put a certain word/phrase, all boils down to reading there profile fully and ask yourself, are you what they want or have to offer and respect there wishes
I dont get tonsend a lot if messages due to the fact I am 61 and stright, lots of age ranges state 60 and bi male, dont get me wrong I'll join for a 3 some and not homeopathic so happy joining in
