Everywhere or nowhere?
A charming friend left me a message saying I was 'alluring' last night. It made me laugh (and not just because I am sure it referred to me inadvertenly flashing in a town centre).
When I get 'flattering' messages as an introduction, though, it does nothing for me.
When does and doesn't flattery work? |

funny isnt it.
some like it and some dont.
i guess if you didnt like it your mind set would be 'you got no chance mate'
but if you did then your in the 'oh that's nice' train of thought and it gives you a boast.
all this proves is that woman dont know what they want and are very hard to please  |

I don't take flattery very well as I always think the other person is taking the p**s. Andy is always moaning at me for this, but after all the years he's known me he knows I'll never change |

Yep!
A little harmless 'flanter' can be harmless via messages or even in the forums - but full on brown tongueing and arse kissing when you've never even communicated - let alone met with someone comes across as a tad desperate and more than a little creepy!
I guess it's a fine line sometimes and if done 'in public' (e.g. forums) it's sometimes hard for people to tell who know's who and who's met who - hence the common use of the dreaded 'c' word regularly - when in fact it's normally just banter between friends, either real or virtual! |

And as the gentleman who complimented Ms Lickety on her alluring outfit last night, I can assure you all that she certainly was. The trip to the cash machine discreetly exposing herself was my fault as I'd left my money at home - she's the perfect lady!
But to answer your auestion, yes I agree compliments from someone who you have not met can be entertaining but of little value (unless complimening how one's profile is written - which can be very nice). |

When its blarney it doesnt work, when its not genuinely meant it doesnt work, when men say stuff to me that could be either of the former to get into my good books or my knickers it doesnt work. When its a genuinely meant compliment.....it may well produce a smile. |

in the context of Swinging - flattery is just as important - after all we dont want to think of us all as being pieces of meat do we...so bring on charm bring on flattery and that goes both ways - even us Bi men appreciate a bit of flattery its not all "drop them fella your on next"  |

Totally agree. Hate when guys who don't know me at all turn on the charm and flatter me. It always makes me feel they are fake. Just turns me right off.
Now if someone who knows me says something flattering or sweet I melt 
It has to be genuine and sincere or it turns me cold. |

i like it when people say they like my pictures, i only say i like their pictures if i realy do.
if someone says i dont look my age, thats nice because thats what all women want to hear. they dont say it very often though. i dont take what people say to me that seriously though.
i was always told that it is polite to say thank you, when someone compliments you, even if you dont agree with them.
so i usualy say thanks even if i think they are lying. |

I like to be complimented! It helps when you first meet someone to be sure that they are attracted to you and interested in taking things further.
I've often thought when guys write lovely things in a verification why they couldn't have said it face to face.
In the chatroon the standard telling every woman on cam that she is stunning is clearly not a genuine approach however.
Its very English not to flatter, or accept compliments well. European men are far more free with compliments, and take rejection with a smile and shrug, and say oh well, maybe tomorrow.... |

I happen to like complimentary comments. Is that a bad thing?
I do realise that many of the remarks made on a site like this are aimed at getting into a woman's knickers.
But when I read that someone appreciates my smile or my eyes over and above the usual "nice tits luv" it does make me feel I must be doing something right lol. |

I use the flattery will get you everywhere line occasionally but only to those we have been having a bit of banter with.
Neither of us take compliments that well, even on the occasions when we know people are being genuine and we know them well.
So from a complete stranger it won't work at all. |
