A few questions here, been on here i'm thinking of starting to get checked. I was wondering though do they check for everything or just common std's. How long does it take? and do they give results straight away, I don't want to be rang while with family or at work or posted out as have nosey parents when there round.
Also what is the process they do?
Also how do you ask them for one, i'd feel a bit embarrassed ringing to say I would like a check-up, as I get the feeling they thing i'm some young idiot been irresponsible.
also how do you get free condoms from them, could do with a top up. Do you need an appointment to get them?

The one I use is nice and relaxed, yes you have to make an appointment, and they will test for everything including HIV if you wish it. Different age groups tend to have different appointment days. Contact is via text so if they need to speak to you about your results etc they will text you and ask you to get back to them at a time suitable to you. Hope this helps |

The process depends on what they are checking for, you can give a urine and blood sample (hopefully not together!) and may also do a urethra swab (which if you haven't had one done before, take note - it's a real toe curler!) |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Check for drop in clinics in your area. At 25 you might still be young enough for the open clinic sessions for young people. It is all confidential and be honest about your lifestyle so that you get the right tests. It is important to be tested regularly, even when using condoms. |

I just ring my local clinic and ask for an appt for a check. They fill in some paper work when your there about sexual partners, but be honest. They will check you for everything. It is slightly embarrassing, but to me its worth the embarrassment, if you want to make sure your clean. Got my appt for next Friday and because they are aware that I'm a swinger, they give me plenty of condoms and regular follow up appointments.
Results are by text or you can have them sent by letter to your address. I usually ask for both.

i was bit worried about going there last time i went was in 1979 when i was 17. and then there was hardly anyone in there. when i go there now its always full of mostly young people.
they ask you lots of questions, each time you go they still ask the same questions they asked you before.
i go there at 8.30 when they open because then its not so busy.
if you go in the afternoon you have to make an apointment, and you have to wait much longer because its busier.
i tell them everything, you dont have too though.
they say they will text you your results
i like to have all the test done available while i am there.
it doesnt take long having the tests done. also they give you free condoms. |

Depends where you go, i use a the mobile clinics sometimes, you do a self swab and they take blood, takes about 10 mins and they text you the results in about 7 days
Also sometimes use the STI clinic thats adjacent to my doctors, they are more thorough, you dont do self swabs they take them and they do viginal/penis, anal and throat swabs as well as taking bloody and urine (you tell them what you want testing you dont have to have the lot) and the results come back within 48 hours, that takes about 20 mins, you can choose to either have them text you or you can call back in and get the results in person
I tend to use the mobile ones every 4 weeks, theres a few swingers clubs that hold them and go for a full test every 6 months |

North of The Wall - youll need your vest |
The one I go to is a normal GUM clinic attached to a medical centre and you can just drop in to the relevant clinic without an appointment (and Im a little bit over the 25....)
They just ask me about the last 3 (I think) partners, whether there was oral, anal or vaginal sex, I do my own swabs and then I get a relatively non-descript text in about a week time.
Then I get a bag of free condoms. But too many orange ones |

You can either go to a Genito Urinary Medicine Clinic (GUM) or to the family planning clinic.
Whichever you choose it's up to you if you want to say you are a swinger or that you are.simply very active.
Both will ask if you want details passed to your GP, but in effect this means very little - it's.still a confidential service and details of your sexual history are.unlikely to be passed on.
Ask for a full screening - the GUM is.generally more comprehensive, my family planning clinic doesn't do throat swabs for example. Btw if you indulge in giving oral without a condom to men then throat swabs are worth considering.
Some clinics will text you, others may call - though usually no news means you're all clear, they will tell you the time frame. If it's a shared number they will only speak to you and if you say it's a bad time they will call back. BUT sexually transmitted infections (sti) are classed as a public health issue so they will persist for certain infections and may ask for details of previous partners.
Having said that rates of transmission amongst swingers is usually low as we are.on the ball and generally sober!
Ask for condoms, if you want more.or certain types.just ask - they can only say.you've got your lot! You can also get free condoms from your GP, but make sure they don't have spermicide on (its not recommended by the NHS but joined up thinking means my GP has those ones!).
And don't worry, they've usually heard it all before! |

most hospitals have a walk in clinic on some days of the week.
dont be worried about it if anything you'll feel great knowing your all clear.
im regulary drug tested and have to give blood and urine samples which is all they do at the clinic so dont worry.
depending on things it can take two weeks to get your results and usually they give you a card with a number on it which is yours.
you ring and the machine on the other end gives you the results so no speaking to anyone directly.
all my drug tests are a bit different to that as they tell you the results and if you got something in your system your soon pulled in.
but relax. loads of people get tested for various reasons and like i said knowing your clean is a good thing. |

Honestly don't worry about it at all!
If you type in Yorsexualhealth into google and go along to the clinic and services tab it will give you all the gum clinics opening times in the York area. You can book an appointment which I would recommend as waiting time is short! But there's nothing to worry about at all, every nurse and doctor I have ever came accross have been lovely and very understanding! There's nothing they haven't heard before so don't be embarrassed! Plus if you get a really nice one they give you a few paper bags of condoms, Always a bonus! And with the results thing, they give you the option on how they are allowed to contact you, I always opt for a text.
Go for it you'll feel better afterwards! |
