Did you swing before the 'internet'
Jump to: Newest in thread
Have always wondered just how big was the swinging scene before the internet made an impact on peoples sex lives ??.
Just how did you contact other swingers ?.. was there some kind of secret handshake !!.. |

there were membership clubs run by post , montly membership lists and if you wanted to contact someone you sent in a letter with a stamped addressed envelope for a reply.. the club then forwarded these on...
it was to put it mildly, very very slow.. |

As a couple we used to but the contact mags usually with the numbers scribbled out so you had to ring a 0870 number before they would release details or the back of the freeads papers bit dodgy those were as no pictures but we managed to meet some very nice people back then xxx |

"They say Pampas grass in the garden was a code for wife swappers lived there "
I said that to my partner the other day as our neighbours across the road have pampas grass in their garden.
He has swung for years on and off and never heard of it before!
0h he can remember the contact mags and fun in Kensington!

"ooh those seedy old contact mags...were they ever really genuine or was somone just opening the replies and taking the cash....!"
Some, at least, were genuine but it was a business which attracted a number of low-lifes. |

Swinging has always been big in the forces, key parties were the old way of doing it.
I do remember on a slightly different thread that when the men were away and the woman were feeling horny they used to put a box of OMO (washing powder) on their windowsill which meant old man out, and any soldiers left behind could take their pick, the top brass got wise and banned it from the camp shops lol. |

we both had a few experiences when younger, long before we met, nothing really planned though. at parties some couples would go looking for bedrooms; when you got more than one couple in the same bedroom sometimes you'd get together, but more often than not you didn't swap, just watch!
neither of us went to specific swinging parties, but we were aware they were around. they didn't really appeal to either of us at that stage in our lives.
it was clubs rather than the internet that started us off as serious swingers. |

Before Online swinging I used to use New Direction Magazine, Journal of Love and Desire. I met quite a few couples including a porn actress through it, but it was scary as you could only prove you were genuine by sending pics of yourself through the post.
With only a small amount of ads in each magazine, all paid for, there was actually a better chance of getting a genuine cpl, compared to the hundred of timewasters online.
I also used to advertise and i sometimes wonder whether anyone still has copies of the magazines with my ads in them.
Good old days!!

"Yes I swung in the days BC (before computers). I used to use contact mags and had a few genuine meets and some replies from working girls. Compared to today it was so slow."
It was slow but it had the advantage of ing out cheating singles who didn't want replies turning up on their home doorstep and it also kept the 'fancy a fuck 2nite?' numpty squad at bay. |

I too am of a vintage that got started in this whole thing via little magazines that would arrive in a plain brown A5 envelope every 6 weeks or so - Rendezvous was my mag of choice as it was based in Northampton (I think) and I was then in the West Mids, and there were lots of local people.. When I say 'lots' it's all relative - compared to on here the numbers were miniscule, but as has been said, the quality tended to be good.
The effort and expense and hassle tended to 'pre-qualify out' the people who on here would be viewed as timewasters, pic collectors etc..
I had loads of meets as a young singleton in those days and don't remember a bad one. Anyone else remember going to 'Marti's' house parties down near Brentwood? Now she was a 'greedy girl' before the term had been invented |

Hi there Steph,
Well it was a bit of a mess really lots of under the counter mags available at you local "Private Shop" which came out once a month with updated adverts.
most of them had the same adverts in side as the next mag.
I use to get a mag called Rendezvous the advert was accompanied buy the smallest black and white photo of poor quality and hardly visable.
You then went through a process of replying to the advert in long hand with a photo of your self, putting that into an envalope with a stamp on it and the advert number in pencil top left/h corner, bored yet ,there's more ?
Then having 4 or 5 you put them into another envelope along with a Postal Order about £12 for 5 replies !!!
Then you posted it and waited, and waited was so frustrating and disappointing when no replies.
I did arrange some meets but it was such a long drawn out process you just give up in the end.
So much better now and been able to be spontaneous and make on the spur of the moment decisions to meet others and get the reply in minuets.
Great !!!!

I once replied to an ad in the back of I think it was Loot magazine.
Felt like applying for a job and the anticipation when a letter came back was massive.
I opened the envelope and out fell 3 explicit photographs along with an invite to meet for a gang bang.
Also enclosed was a request for £20 for more photos which made me wonder if it was genuine.
I chickened out but always wish I'd maybe seen it through. |

The good old days of Ad Mag, your letter with a code number for forwarding inside a letter to the company, along with postal orders. Mind it did work 13 years ago!
Would we go back? Not on your life, Fab is a far better way! |
