First summer not having one, miss having one on days like this. It does make me laugh the jealous haters that spout up about them being tacky & so forth. |

I love going for a drive in my Del Sol with the roof off.
"In Crete where ;oive the last thing you want, give me a solid roof and great A/C"
I agree with this, I actually think the UK has the perfect weather for a convertible, anywhere hotter and sunnier you'd be at risk of sunburn and as soon as you stopped it would be unbearably hot |

One of my cars has what could best be described as a Targa roof. Well, it's often referred to as a T-Top as it's two removeable glass panels, but there you go.
It's off the road at the mo though, as I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine and transmission and doing a light restoration |

Mine's only got the D16 but it's still so much fun! I bought it 4 years, figured it would be a quick summer fling but then I fell in love with it |

Learned my lesson with soft tops on our honeymoon. We had a road trip planned from Miami to key west, I had romantic notions of driving an American muscle car, roof down, don henley ,boys of summer playing. So I rented a very nice looking camero RS v8. It was July 4th so half of Florida were also heading to key west, never got above 25mph, I burnt my nose, kim burnt her forehead and her hair looked like she’d been dragged through several hedges, roof stayed up for rest of the honeymoon. |

"I own a 1943 willys jeep. No doors, no roof and I can put the windscreen down. Drove it at the weekend to an event, so much fun. "
We love jeeps. Always have them not as old as yours but same concept. |

I have an MX5 2 seater, my fourth, I don’t care what I look like in it, I love the roof down Brit summer or winter, a hairdressers car no doubt but it’s fun and it makes me smile every time I go somewhere in it |

Wife also has an MX5, pictures on profile. She loves it, especially tops down on a hot summers day. |

Way back in my teens I had various MG Midgets and A.H. Sprites with the odd Morgan thrown in, then came a long period of sensible cars, boring but essential.
Upon retiring I bought an MX5 as a second car, The MX5 to me was the nearest rag top to the quintessential British roadsters of the 1960s, i.e. front engine rear wheel drive. It gave me 10 years of pure pleasure and fun before two knackered knees and a dodgy hip made it almost impossible to get in an out so sadly I had to part with it. If I ever get my knee replacements I will certainly be back in the market for another rag top.My brother in law who is 87 still drives his Porsche 911 on a daily basis. |

If your reason for driving a car is to look good for others, you should reconsider your life.
Loved my convertible Volvo C70, (in my 30s) and don't care about what other people thought. Though many ladies liked riding in it. |

Yeah whenever I see a guy drive past in a Ferrari with the roof off my first thought is “how tacky”. Must be horrible having to drive such a car. I pity these poor men. What a failure in life |

One of the most underrated cars ever. I know it's japanese, but its the best "British" sports car ever... And this coming from an mr2 owner |

So I'm having a mid-life crisis then. I love driving mine with the roof up or down but the last few weeks of sunny weather have been great (except for the mildly burnt bald head of course ). I guess the definition of "tacky" is pretty subjective. |

Can't say I've had many ladies riding in mine, but those that have loved it...
....and I love driving it, preferably roof down - and being a T5, it's no slouch... |

"I think if you want a drop head, it needs to be a propper one. A 51 plate mx5 isn't gonna do it. I realise we don't all have the cash to splash, but a mini, that 500 or Hyundai isn't gonna cut it."
Nah. Everyone has different budgets what’s proper to one might not be proper to someone else. But it’s how it makes you feel. If you save up and buy the car you love/want whether it’s a £5k MX5 or a £10k mini or a £100k 911 it’s all the same. I’ve owned many convertible cars across the last 15 years, I don’t buy/drive them for people to look at me. I drive them because I can, and because after a shit day when I get into something that I’ve dreamt about owning it puts a little smile on my face and I remember life ain’t so bad after all

Convertibles tend to be Marmite cars, not so much for the owners but to other drivers.
Have recently bought an old SLK and for me its just a joy. I know all the problems they can have and suffer from but its my backup and fun car. Even going to work the past couple of weeks, being able to put the roof down first thing in the morning in the sunshine even makes going to work bearable.
I have had more favourable comments about this car in the last three weeks than i have had for all the other cars i have ever owned. Admittedly most favourable comments are from women, a lot of blokes do seem to have a problem with a convertible especially when it has its roof down especially if they are in a van, a 4 x 4 pickup or wear a baseball cap. |

Complains about wind drag and fuel economy of a convertible - drives a SUV |

"No jealousy.... just pointless for 6 weeks of the year.... driven by the __look at me, look at me brigade"
I used to feel a bit self conscious and worry about thinking I might be a bit of a w**ker when driving with the roof down but now I'm past caring. That open air feeling is just too good to pass up. |
