Personally I get the observations in terms of people feeling less shame having a preference for a BAME than they do for not wanting BAME. You can have similar culture to someone and be of a different race to them for example Caribbean’s and English people will have more in common than say Caribbean’s & Somali’s due to Caribbean’s & English people being mostly Christian and Somali’s predominantly Muslim, and yet Somali’s are more similar skin colour to Caribbean’s. Also, if your grandmother was black that would surely make you of mixed heritage not solely “Caucasian”? Skin colour and race/ethnicity are two very different things, again for example an albino has the skin colour of a Caucasian but most albinos are actually African.
