Pictures don't do justice

Often read this comment in verifications. Met in person and pictures don't do her justice and such like.

I know it's supposed to be a compliment but is it just me who finds it disrespectful or at best a very back handed compliment?

Some people are not as photo genic as others. It's a big compliment in my eyes to be told someone looks better than their photos.

I never thought anyone would see it as a disrespect xx

It is a compliment and I think that many people are much better in person than in the posed pictures that we use.

Some aren't an improvement, where they've used old pics or lifted from porn etc.

I don't find myself very photogenic at all, so I consider this about myself. I am better looking in person (I believe) so my pictures don't do me justice, potentially a disservice.

I'd never consider it as anything but a compliment. Not even a back handed compliment.
