To be honest it's hard to say because a lot of them are so bone they don't even register. 'Can I ask you a question' being a common recurring example. Sometimes you see the first-line and instantly think, next. Don't want to sound out of order but the first line in you inbox notification can just be an instant turn off. I don't think anyone wants to waste their time when they know its an instant turn off and nobody owes anybody their time in reply. It's always disappointing when you don't get a reply but we just have to be adults and take it on the chin. We can't expect to be everyone's cup of tea or expect time and effort from them in response to an unsolicited message (especially when it lacks anything you can go off). |

Before I learnt to filter out guys from messaging me. Mainly because i was happy to chat with anyone. Got the following message repeatedly from a guy.

Eventually blocked him and set up filters to block guys from messaging me. |

Its more than likely because people don't know how/have no options on how to greet someone on a platform that seems to insist people don't
* say hello?
*ask them how they are?
*ask them if their day is going okay?
*ask them how they are finding fab?
Frankly it doesn't give anyone much scope for starting a proper conversation.. So it's likely ' can I ask you a question?' is the best you are going to get..
Really not sure what else someone could say to introduce themselves.. Other than to just jump in and ask to meet for sex.. Bit blunt but would get the job done! Likely would have complaints though
Now if people actually didn't mind social graces like ' How are you? 'being used that would be okay. The problem with the open question wouldn't be happening

We've had write a few that simply say "hi"....we do reply but as we only meet at clubs it usually ends there. I guess the best are from people that send a message, but don't allow you to look at their profile or reply to them.... Always found that weird lol |

So, having seen a lot of the replies I am personally none the wiser.. ' writing a well-crafted message' is still going to have someone inquiring about someone's health and well-being isn't it? or shouldn't it be in there somewhere?
Genuinely looking for a sensible answer as I am sure will be a lot of other people.

We actually give a short list of things to ask us about in our profile. Just something to get a conversation going as, in all honesty, most days are pretty crap at the moment with health, finance and future plan issues, so we really don't want to tell people how we are or how our day's been! |

Reading some of the opinionated claptrap on here...not sure you really understand how difficult it is to get through the various hoops to getting a message read. Personally I find a polite well crafted message has about 1 in 30 chance of even being read let alone responded to.....so seriously there is one way to improve the quality of the initial approaches..... |
