"The wife has asked me to take her there when we are free to travel once again.
Thought I would ask for recommendations from you kind people for your places to visit whilst there?"
Plenty of places to visit… what do you prefer? Museums, cafes, bars, sightseeing, activities? A blend? |

Fata Morgana and the red light district for naughty
A’Dam hotel, because it has karaoke lifts, great service and is just really nice. Their bar is cool.
There are often markets out on the streets adjacent to the canals, worth investigating.
Use trip advisor for smoking cafes if that’s your thing as I don’t recall is having a favourite. Tip: don’t eat an entire brownie because you think the first half hasn’t worked
Bakers and Roasters for a great brunch.
We enjoy speakeasy type bars, there are a couple that require booking in advance. One is called Door 74, it’s pretty cosy.
Bar 27 is also nice.
We’ve got a list of about 30 different places to explore saved on our google maps.
Basically just have a google then wander around |

One of the evening games she has talked about is picking a "lady of the night" for each other. Not that we will partake but it will be interesting to see who we will choose for each other. |

Those Dam Boat Guys are good for canal tours - small boats and good-natured, informal guides.
Free ferries from behind Centraal station to the north side of the IJ, for a wander, a bite to eat, the film museum, or a trip to the top of the Toren for great views and a ridiculous swing (not like that).
Stroll around Vondelpark if the weather is good, and the city centre is very walkable if you have the time and the fitness.
Leidseplein for an outdoor drink in a less lairy atmosphere than the RLD.
With apologies to the earlier poster, the floating flower market is a big disappointment, and the reputation of the sellers has plummeted over the last few years.
Lots of great beers at several famous bars, In De Wildeman being a favourite. Bar and brewery beneath a windmill in the east of the city at Brouwerij ‘t IJ.
If the madness of the main RLD gets too much then there’s a quieter one a few minutes walk away on the Singel canal, but without the bars, pizza joints, coffeeshops and adult emporia.
Travel passes can be very handy if you’re going to use the trams or the metro.
Take care of your valuables, like in any other crowded city. |

You can get a 12/24/48 travel pass that has all the small museums and boat ride included. I wouldn’t bother with Rembrandt gallery or Anne Frank unless very interested , you will be queuing a long time for Anne frank and need a good half day in Rembrandt.
Depends on your interests but I’d stay out of town in an AirBnB , there’s are lots of really nice artists houses by the canals, also an art hotel on the main Damrack. Rembrandt square is good for a night out. Red light area obviously! Doors and Jimi Hendrix cafes are good. I like the tulip and photography museums. |

Fata Morgana but keep in mind that ability to travel doesn’t equal anything/everything will be open. Better check the local situation before booking. NL still in lockdown and no sign of swingers clubs able to reopen anytime soon. |

Inbound travel still banned into NL unless your are EU citizen/resident or qualify on very restrictive exemption list (no tourism), 10 days quarantine (down to 5 with additional testing on day 5), PCR+LFT before flying in. |

A lot of places mentioned already by people. Best way to see the city is on foot (with the occasional tram thrown in). If you’re flying in you can buy a travel card at Schipol which will cover the train journey to and from Amsterdam Centraal, and can use on the trams and buses.
Need to be aware that if you’re looking at accomodation, get something in the Central area. There will be good deals on some hotels but they’ll be in Amsterdam-zuid or Amsterdam-nord, and could entail a lengthy trip to and from the centre of town. Would recommend looking at hotels around Damrak, Leidseplein, Rembrandtsplein, Rijksmuseum, Jordaan areas.
The Heineken brewery tour can be fun - get to see how the beer is made, history of the brand, if it’s summer they have a rooftop bar where you get your complimentary beer, the horses may be in as well. Also the Albert Cuyp market (food and flea market) is about 5 minutes walk from the Heineken building - nice street food etc.
The bloemenmarkt (flower market) isn’t very big and is next to the Munt Tower at the top of Rokin.
Red lights district (De Wallen) normally has a large police presence on weekends and can be pretty safe - just the usual precautions you’d take on small dark streets in the UK.
And the food scene is great - recommend trying an Indonesian Rijstaffel, perhaps try some authentic Dutch food like Stampot, and the Auromatieks (snack bars where the food is behind hatches in the wall) for Croquetten, Fricandel etc.
If you’re into Museums then there’s the Van Gogh museum and close by that the Rijksmuseum.
And take time to sit and have even fleische Pils or een Koffie outside a cafe and watch the world go by.
It’s a great city and so much more than drugs and sex - have a great time |

For a safe bet you can download the cannab*s cup previous winners list and just make your own walking or Uber map rather than end up in places like bulldog or taking online recommendations . They are generally not themed fun bars though more specialised places like grey area (grey mist crystals) that have win awards and a bit off the beaten track |

Try out the Erotic Cinema chain of sex on premises (regional locations like Arnhem) ... all very good with several cinema rooms and play rooms. All a short train ride from Amsterdam and open from lunchtime ... to late. |

A good swingers club near Amsterdam is the Showboat near Zaandam, used to be open on a Sunday afternoon as well as evenings. Another place which had diffent theme nights is Sameplace. |
