All depends on the situation or the thing your overthinking, now im not religious but I do pray to a higher power around what I may be struggling with, then mediate to quiten the mind down, to listen for an answer

I'm sure I have the answers but this past year especially I feel your pain, never had it before but can only ashume it's some kind of anxiety as I've been a just trying to muddle through the past year.

I find thinking about the worst stuff that will never happen but I can't stop imagining it anyway.

Maybe try to force your mind to think about some positive scenarios. You can also read about the visualisation your positive targets. Meditation works well. X

Keeping busy is the best answer. Long walks and keep in touch with the ones who you love . Make time for the people who matter the most

Distraction, keep your self busy, take up a new hobby, read a book, bake a cake, plant something.

My head can be like a washing machine at times, sometimes I just have to let the process go through its cycle organically, knowing it'll pass at some point

I do this a lot, it’s definitely gotten worse this last year. I have been introduced to Mindfulness which I have found it really helps, especially with getting to sleep - you know when you put your head on the pillow and “ping” your brain starts keeping you awake. It’s worth giving it a try x

My experience of anxiety is there is a cause of it, whether u know that ir can identify it is another matter...

Look in cognitive behaviour coping steadies to deal with both the thinking and the resulting anxiety

This is a massive issues for many of us, which has been intensified by lockdown and simply not being able to escape our own thoughts.

I’ve found this insta page really helpful.

I’m with you on this topic, I over think and have anxiety at times. I hate it it can rule your life. The worst for me is waking early in the morning, lying in bed with your brain going ten to the dozen. As above keeping busy is an important thing to do. You have my sympathy.

Have you tried journaling? You can write whatever you like, just write whatever comes, then it’s out of your head, you can read it back, burn it, whatever...

I find podcasts are good to listen to at bed time.

Find someone with a soothing voice. I particularly like classic ghost stories on Spotify, I think I could listen to him read the yellow pages! Sends me right off.

Feck no shuts mine up!

Otherwise try to remember that there is often no truth behind what you're thinking and if there is what are you going to do about it, if the answer is nothing then let the thought float on by.

Recognition of it being something unhelpful is your first step. Then recognising each time that you start to do it. At such a point, you could deliberately do something different, whether it is standing up, going outside, playing a short video, maybe something funny. Any step can come to mean that you are now doing something different, helping to break the pattern.

You could talk things through when possible, with someone you trust too, just sharing how this has bothered you.

Taking up a physical activity can be a very good thing for our mind and mental health. It's a good investment.

If there's something big, it could be helpful for you to get it off your chest. It's been a tough year for people, it's added lots of stress and problems for people. You've potentially been cut off from others and life satisfaction. You may be helped by others.

Have bigger and better things to concentrate on. The people with a happy fulfilling life tend to overthink less

4 years of therapy has helped me.

The main lessons I learned were

1 realise what you are doing and stop the spiral. Do this by literally talking to yourself. "This is all bullshit. I don't know this is true. I'm going to act like it's not true"

2 breathe. Deep slow breaths.

3 stay busy. I go out to my garden and over think about that. Fresh air. Go for a walk. Or a swim. Read a book sitting beside a river. Go for a cycle.

4 stay busy. Do something that requires no thought like painting or drawing or knitting.

I realised most of my overthinking was a way of punishing myself. So I tried to work on that too. Hate me less and improve my self esteem. For me most of the over thinking was negative spirals. I had to break that habit

I still over think. But I try to do it in positive spirals. Yes I will get my lawn looking great. Yes. This year my vegetables will grow. Yes. This year I will get more than 6 peas and a single potato

Be kind to you OP and everyone else too. Mental health is key

Over thinking, is the brains way of trying to make sense of situations out of our control...

deep thinking usually coincides with emotions - distractions, exercise, good food, good company and learning to let go, are all positive steps forward in easing brain fog.

Usually when we overthink,it's because we care about the person, situation or outcome that the thoughts revolve around. We can become our own worst enemy and end up torturing ourselves.

Talk talk it out. Great clarity can be found in sharing, problems can be halved and peace can be found
