From March 29th a fine of 5k will be imposed for breaking covid new rules by travelling abroad apart from work.....shall we just accept that there will be normality till 2022? Thoughts....

Given that their is a third wave something has to be put in place otherwise all the effort would be for nothing and could increase deaths and we never know what age groups it might target if the mutation changes

You having the jab doesn't mean you can't go away, bring back some of the virus and infect us people who are still waiting. The more who go out and carry the virus the more chance it will mutate, this could mean mutating into a virus resitance strain. Is it not better walk the final miles together. I think there has been enough deaths.

I can understand why they are doing it.

I've been travelling a lot with work, there's a good number of people who are chancing their arm to get away.

It's hard enough for me getting exemption letters and tests at both ends, takes some balls to just wing it and hope for the best for a bit of sun.

Couldn't care less, if it means that we don't get a third wave from people travelling abroad then we can return to some form of normalcy sooner rather than later. Seems selfish that people think that holidays are a right rather than a privilege and would bemoan missing some for the greater good of the rest

Shouldn’t travel agents, tour operator, plane operators etc be made apart of the blame. If they Aren’t banned from selling holidays I don’t Think family’s should take all the blame. We are thinking no foreign holidays due To feelings through Europe over brexit and feel we have beautifull coastlines so we’d rather boost our Own tourist economy.

There is no final mile.... the virus will mutate just as it did in London. We just have to accept that. We should all be doing things to limit our contact but by imposing these limits after leaving the door wide open for so long just shows how bad and crazy this government are. If I’m right we still have travellers that are coming to this country and should be quarantined but because of the lack of up take in a government plan..... there are still not enough hotel rooms to house those that are coming into the country. So what’s the point in putting this measure in place.

Glad I booked 2 U.K. breaks instead for this year and saving abroad for next.

Not happy about it but might as well make the most of it.

Plenty of day trips to the coast/meals out and days out with the kids instead this year.

It's just a holiday.

Think about all the people who won't be going away ever again, because they died.

I don't want to go anywhere until the threat of dying, or transmitting it to someone who could die is very low, or gone.

I am used to 5 or 6 foreign trips each year and to not be 'allowed' does feel like a degree of liberty has been (temporarily) taken away

However, no one is saying we can't holiday, we just can't do it abroad at the minute

There are hundreds of resorts and getaways in the UK

Once we can travel more freely domestically, go and explore the wonder of the British Isles - keep some of your holiday pounds in our own economy

The issue we have here is so many people only regard it as a holiday if it includes the words sun, beach and cheap alcohol

Maybe October break, but I'd far more like to see being able to travel to see loved ones within the UK safely rather than travel abroad.

Europe is seeing a 3rd wave, keep those out from Europe for me I'm afraid.

You can transmit it while I sit on a bus for an hour to go to the zoo or any other day out.

Can also transmit it going to the supermarket, going for a day out at the coast, walking around a museum, while sitting inside and having a meal, while out having drinks with a friend, while having a coffee in a coffee shop, cinema trip, etc etc

So it’s ok to do all those things and transmit it but if you book a holiday abroad then it’s ‘just a holiday’ and we should all think of the dead

By going abroad, we risk bringing new strains in, which may be resistant to the current vaccines

So, it's not so much 'think of the dead', but think of the living, who once you get back, might brush past you in the supermarket or sit next to you on the bus

You might be lucky, they might not

I've always thought a holiday abroad was a luxury not a right.

I usually go in February, when our weather is crap, never seen the point in going during our summer, managed to get one in last year but not this. We've had good summers here for several years, although never guaranteed there are plenty of lovely places within the UK.

Just accept that you may not be able to have your luxury again this year, whilst a pandemic could be the end of the world, a fortnight abroad isn't!

125000+ just in the UK, who will never get a holiday again, anywhere. Also there are loads of nice places to holiday in the UK, and you can help rebuild our economy. Many other countries aren't as far into their vaccination programmes as we are so probably won't be safe to travel to anyway. We are all fed up with it, but we are also still here!

Well that proposal for fines is all fair & well to prevent luxury abroad holiday travel (we can holiday here) but what about those like myself who have family abroad & haven't seen them in a decade never mind a year! 2 of which have died this year (not covid) too.

In total we've had 7 deaths & not one has been soley due to covid, there were many other serious issues with their health including age (2 of).

I'm assuming that almost nobody has been abroad except for permitted reasons. The £5000 fine is for show, to placate the likes of Express readers etc.

As it stands, it's a few weeks until they announce more details of the relaxation of lockdown travel restrictions.

That is exactly what I’m thinking- holidays are a luxury. Also having been stuck last March in Gran Canaria when the flights first got cancelled on the day we were due to fly home and Spain imposed lock down seemingly overnight, what sorta holiday do you expect to have anyway? Imagine paying all that to stay in your hotel room. No excursions , no trips to the park or beach cos they’re closed.. some holiday. Global pandemics don’t just end in a year.

Enjoy england Scotland and Wales once we reopen. There’s so much to see here and help support our own tourist industry.

Even though ,at the moment near half the adult population has had their first jab, with nobody going abroad and holidaying in the UK,let's hope there are no variations of covid floating around. Most popular UK holiday destinations are now fully booked, hotels, bnbs, self catering. There are waiting lists incase of cancellations, yes its great for UK businesses, not so great for Travel Industry. Personally I'd rather go abroad, and would rather carry on working than holiday here, especially as, at the best of times, this country is rammed come bank holidays school holidays
