I think this but I’ll try a day trip to Calais later this year to see what the queues and Brexit delays are like so if they goes ok might book next year in France and if it’s a total. Nightmare won’t bother.

It will depend on how risk averse you are.
Outbound travel will open up to receptive countries within Europe by the summer.
The more reliant they are on our money for their GDP, the more likely they say yes......Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Cyprus etc, will probably take us back, with either negative tests or vaccine certs. Others will have their own rules, obviously.
The risk element will much more be on returning to U.K. and how destinations mitigate for new variants of Covid.....if one is found there while you are away, be ready for some serious quarantine and additional costs on returning home. That’s either your risk, or your insurance.
Personally, we love travel, and have already got plans to Dubai/Maldives in July, USA & Hedo for a month in October/November and GC in Dec. All are booked as cancelable upto a day or 2 beforehand.
The question isn’t can we go on holiday.....it will be “dare” we go on holiday?

Staying in the UK this year as there's no way of knowing what will be happening in the destination countries in terms of further restrictions and lockdowns. Foreign travel can wait until next year. |

I think if infection rates continue the downward trend and if vaccinations carry on at the rate they are, then we will be able to have foreign holidays this year.
The question will be; will we want to if social distancing restrictions are in place when we get there?
I’m giving the holidays a miss this year as I don’t want to book and then go through the rigmarole of cancellation or changing for a later date if rates start to rise |

We are not looking to go abroad this year. We will be happy with staycations and enjoying the beautiful places in the UK.
Hopefully we can look forward to winter and summer holidays abroad next year.

We have just cancelled our trip to Cap d'Agde that we had booked for June (and shifted it to next year). We chose to do that now rather than leave it till the last minute and risk being both disappointed and out of pocket.
Even if overseas holidays are allowed by then we think the situation will be fairly volatile and there's no telling which countries will be open or closed to us. Also the anti-vaxers in France mean it will be a long time before they match us in terms of immunity.
We have booked a couple of breaks away in this country instead. We'll really miss Agde though! |

We plan to visit K's sister and new wife after not been able to go to the wedding a few weeks back. The live in America so realistically that visit will be 2022.
For 2021 its staycations in the UK. The band Suede just moved their April 21 gigs to Nov 21 so we have ordered our tickets tonight. Its the 2nd or 3rd time the dates have shifted now so we are hoping it goes ahead finally.

I wouldn’t bother with Calais - it’s not very interesting now. Would suggest get Eurostar to Lille - better restaurants and a Fab coffee/chocolate shop/cafe - they have another in Paris. |

I won't be flying abroad this year.
I don’t want to stand in line with God knows who, then sit in a close proximity to them , to go and have to pay even more attention while I'm meant to be relaxing. Then do the return.
Its going to be short breaks in England, where things are second nature and in self contained accommodation. |

I'm assuming that holidays abroad will be possible, especially for those who have had the vaccine. Several countries appear to be ready to welcome us. The issues may be costs and barriers coming back and needing new tests and to isolate. It may be easier getting away than the return.
Availability of good trips may be an issue, with lots of those cancelled last year rebooked for this year, reducing free slots.
With flexibility, it could be a possibility. The UK could be expensive in comparison. |

People need to remember that the UK is way ahead of most other countries with the vaccination program including all of Europe! Anyone booking a holiday abroad at the moment really need to stop and take a long look at what they are doing. You could be bringing all sorts of variant strains back. You could be responsible for a lot of people's deaths, do you need a foreign holiday that much? |

No I don't want to be in stranded in another country when it goes into lockdown as they are so far behind us in vaccination, or have to quickly find my way home.

Been looking the last few days prices are crazy.
Usually go away for 10 day 4 of us about 2.3k from Manchester.
About 3k now for end of June.
October break is same price.
Will wait till next year |

We aim and hope to get to France this summer, we drive down to our place and are happy to just stay there. Purely for the sunshine heat!
If there are travel restrictions or lockdowns still we may defer, and or if we cannot return to UK without enforced hotel quarantine.
If we have to self isolate for a couple of weeks either way no problem. |

Yes I think it will be happening, Greece and Spain have stated they'll be open to receive tourists from may. Spain are bringing in an electronic proof of vaccine system |

I went away to Costa Rica in December, it felt loads safer with covid over there than being here. Masks had to be worn everywhere - even outside in built up areas. Also you can't enter any premises without sanitising your hands first, and they're very strict on this. Unlike here... |

We are hoping to visit our family home in Portugal in late Summer yearly Autumn. Only 2 out of 3 of us have had the first vaccine, so hopefully all 3 of us would have had the full immunisation by then.  |

Read our post and beings that we would drive to our own property, stay at that property, in the a place 5k from the nearest town which has currently had 3 cases total throughout the entire thing. Return via car and if requested self isolate for 2 weeks yep reckon my Uk stay vacation would equally as dangerous or higher! We have made one bubble no other meetings only shopped for food when needed apart from medical trips for ourselves and or our one bubble that has been it. You feel free to judge but when we are told we are free we will begin our lives how we feel fit. Our mirror is very easy to look in and truly hope yours is too.

I would be looking at booking somewhere next year at the earliest...

Travelling is not an issue but you should also consider the crowd management at the airports due to social distancing measures in place .
It's chaotic . People been waiting for hours to be checked and entry exit gates . I don't want to get stranded at airport for hours just to get thru the security gates .

What is the point of thinking about going on holiday if when you get there nothing is open. Bars, restaurants, clubs are all closed and the countries you all seem to be wanting to travel to are rife with high covid numbers and a very poor vaccinations programme. Thinking of travelling is totally irresponsible and is likely to remain so for most of this year. Stop thinking of yourself and think of others for a change |

Really getting to see family and friends should be priority not flying off to sunbathe. weve all been in lockdown isolated many wants we cant have. life is more important than the beach right now . |

The governement has made it illegal to take a holiday abroad and from today imposed a fine of £5,000 for anybody attempting to take a holiday abroad unless there are compelling reasons to go abroad like work or family issues, (but let us see how long the PM allows travel to Greece soon so his father can go to manage his holiday let.) |

Not caught what Boris said yesterday but just saw 5k fines for those going abroad.
Looks like 3rd wave from abroad is the factor to our borders hopefully staying closed for now.
Tbh I'd rather wait for a holiday and be safe. |

I hope so but am very wary. I caught coronavirus early on in March last year just as lockdown started after a flight back from Majorca. We were aware that a young lady on the plane wasn’t very well but thought nothing of it at the time as infection levels were very low. A few days later we were called by the airline to tell us a few coronavirus cases had now been traced to our flight and a couple of days after we both had symptoms. We later found out that almost 50% of those on the flight had caught it! So much for safe filtered air on planes |

I also think there's a bit of gamesmanship going on between us and the EU. Them threatening slow downs on the vaccine in return us knowing they need us for tourism and all the time we are caught in the middle. |

I will be on a plane to dubai ASAP when we can go and restrictions lift. Really just want to go back on regular holidays. Having said that I love staycations too. Main thing is WILL the road map actually stay in place with the same dates.
I went to Turkey last year during covid around September time. Had to clear it with my work (NHS) and made sure all the laws said it was okay. It was ace to see what other countries has put in place. All self check-in. Even for luggage etc. No contact with anyone other than security. The airline said they had put new air filtration systems in the cabins too. It was deffo more covid safe in turkey at that point as masks were mandatory everywhere. All our bags were sterilised going into the hotel. It was definitely an experience. |

It is but we weren’t totally surprised. We travel to Majorca regularly and have friends that do the same. In the cold/flu season ( October to March) it is amazing how many of us get on the plane perfectly healthy and find that we have a cold within a couple of days of arriving or when we get home. We regularly take a relative to hospital appointments as she has COPD and when we told the consultant there what had happened he wasn’t at all surprised. He described the air on a plane as ‘virus soup’ ! |

Prices for many staycations are ridiculous. In april 2018 I went to Istanbul, 5 nights, 4 star hotel, flights included for £380. Its my hobby to find good flights and hotels
Decent staycations in the UK can easily be 400-500 for a weekend. Booking hotels in cities can be cheaper but cottages, even glamping, or weekend breaks away are insane.
I found a lovely lighthouse to stay in for the weekend, £1.2k for the weekend!!! Though I understand that is something really different. |

Personal preference would be to support UK tourist businesses as they’ve had a very tough year. Too many people jumping on board the Dubai train, personally, I lived and worked there and I couldn’t think of a worse sand pit to go to, even the beaches are man made. |

You are right. Dubai isn’t on my list of amazing places to visit and when you’ve been plenty of times or have worked there I think it gets quite boring. However their standards are quite high, their prices for usually expensive hotels are quite cheap at the moment and for people who have a halal diet there are endless choices of food. For me the food is the main thing if I want to just sit back and not do anything for a week |

We prob wont be travelling abroad for a while ...so yeh lets support tourism in our Country ..they have all lost out so much ....from Hotels ..entertainment to ice cream sellers ... |

It's a tricky one for me. I'd have to isolate over there, then again on return to UK. Plus I'd have to get a test before I came home, which is easier said than done in a tiny Polish town in the middle of nowhere. Poland have just gone in to a new lockdown as cases have risen dramatically in the past month. |

By time we have all had both our vaccines,over a year of lock down. It's time to say we have done all we can.

It's not just about UK having both vaccinations yes this would help to get a little bit of normality in UK but wouldn't be the case for traveling around who would be in a different category of number of people who have been vaccinated and the virus could mutate yet again and become out of control |

I’ ve sort of written off this year and just booked for February 2022 .
But being optimistic I’m hoping to be able to go to my birth country this year and see my parents, it’s been 18 months so far ...
