I'd prefer the terms either lady or sexy bitch it depends on the nature of the female to be labelled as one or the other I'm pretty good at figuring this out but still leave it open to be surprised ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Seriously, ask any man if he likes to be called boy, the answer is absolutely not, and usually ends in long waits in a&e, and longer explanations to the police, in my experiences, so why expect a woman to be happy being called a girl? Doesn't make sense |

That's odd I was going to say the exact opposite. Depends on the context really but in sporting worlds very often men and boys are used interchangeably and the tiniest spec of dust is still 100 times bigger than the amount I care. "the boys played well"... "come on lads" "let's go boys"... But hey it takes all sorts. |

Yes because a woman being called a girl by a man is in the same context as a man being called a boy by another man!?!?
Unless you are expecting to get sent to A&E after a woman calls you boy?
Personally I don’t care what anyone calls me as long as I know they are referring to me. Life's too short to get hung up on a word that means fuck all to me in the end.

Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) | |
I prefer lady but I wouldn’t be offended by girl. If I was to talk about a group of female friends I’d refer to them as my girl friends, never my lady friends. And if we have a night out it would be ‘girls night’ rather than ‘ladies night’. So you can see how men get confused.
I’d rather be called called girl than anything like baby... eeeew.

"Wow, some fussy chicks on here "
I didn’t realise having our own preferences about what we are called made us fussy. I thought as ‘women’ we are entitled to decide what we like being called.
I’m all woman, but a girl, definitely never a hun, babe, honey, sweetheart or my personal pet hate ‘young lady’ |

Depends on context, if it's not meant as a put-down, then neither of us would mind being called a girl or a boy.
Besides, one of Niki's favourite TV series was the Gilmore Girls - written, produced and starring women, didn't seem to be a problem for them. |

Surely context is everything?
If someone in the street called Mrs B a slut they would get a slap (or more) from her.
But when she is being fucked she loves being told what a slut or dirty bitch she is!
Had a guy who we met a few times who clearly liked to tell her what a good girl she was. Typing it sounds creepy actually but in the heat of the moment nobody batted an eyelid! |

It’s basic English language skills. Baby has the obvious meaning but can be used with a partner as a term of endearment. A horny guy will use it sexually to impart their aroused state on someone who may not be open to that. Just lack of thought.
Girl again is a bit of an insult I feel. Women stop being girls at an early stage and become young women, then women. I find it odd calling someone a girl when the person is clearly an adult.
It’s very simple. All females on here are women.

But clearly many like being called girl. So no, it’s not an insult. It’s a preference. An insult would be calling someone a cow. That’s an insult in almost every scenario.... unless you’re into cow play... which I hope I just made up.... |

If someone does call a lady a girl and she doesn't like it despite no offence being intended, then I'm sure she could helpfully suggest something else to that person without any issues.
Only problem is that people seem to be offended more nowadays... either when they are called something or when its pointed out to the person who said it.
We are all adults looking for some naughty fun... I'm sure we can all get over things without hissy fits and unnecessary blockings.
Not calling out anyone on this thread... its good that people are having the conversation, it just feels like people in general are getting more tetchy - both on fab and in the real world. |

I normally refer to people via their names.
But personally I don't mind pet names so long as the intention is aimed at being affectionate.
The intention is everything and everyone is different so some will like it some won't and some won't care either way.
I see no harm if a particular term offends you in correcting the person you are corresponding with as they may not realise and think that because it was charming to someone else they spoke to it will work with others.
Sure if they do not ammend their ways after being asked then be offended. But we are not all the same and people tend to behave based on previous experiences and responses.

Hmmm actually i have issues with that statement! Not all females identify as female and some definitely would object to the pronouns her /she

"It’s basic English language skills.
"
Aside from how problematic and borderline misogynistic a sweeping generalisation like "all women are.." is, several women on this thread alone have already stated that they like being called girls and even more women have expressed an enormous distaste for being referred to as "Females". Under the circumstances, I'm going to respectfully disagree. |

Whoops. Guilty as charged. I'm afraid I was called on this precise point recently in the forum! I think it comes from guys and gals? I certainly don't think of the phrase as an insulting term in any way, anymore than calling a gent a guy?
Just a lighthearted phrase as far as I'm concerned and no need for to much p.c. to enter what is really only meant to be a fun space for a little banter?(ducks quickly to avoid brickbats?) ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

I would call men 'boy' in a dominatrix/mother type setting though not outside of them.
I think that it the point is something's like girl are okay in a certain context I.e. being called a naughty girl/boy during sex but not outside of it.

I don’t like being called “girl”, unless it’s one particular person and he’s calling me “good girl”. I don’t like it from anyone, of any gender, and I don’t use it to refer to adult women myself. Not even to say “girl’s night” or something like that. I also hate being called a female. I see it all the time on here, men call themselves men and women girls or females. Yes, I know some of the women do too; and yes, I know some women don’t mind or even like it. But the fact that some like it doesn’t mean you should apply it to all of us. |

"I don't mind girl, hate lady, prefer woman.
Don't even get me started on hon or hun."

Perhaps already touched on and a view from a different type of ‘female’
We are often referred to as ‘t-girls’, but never really heard the term t-woman or t-lady ... personally I don’t mind.
What is a lovely feeling however is being acknowledged as female when being out dressed .... it is great to be referred to as madam, lady ... or even ‘love’ as in ‘yes love what can I get you’ often asked in a bar.
I can’t think of anyone ever wanting to call me ‘girl’ ... given my age and gender ... but the world won’t end if they did
