We like to cycle during the summer - a nice hilly 10 miler to the naturist beach is a summer favourite. A least you aren't weighed down by wet swimwear on the way back ! |

Agreed. It's all about routine - I just watch an episode of a boxset a day whilst on the trainer. It just becomes an automatic part of your day, and it means that come April I won't be starting from scratch. |

The races are based on w/kg not just watts, I’m racing in B (3.1-3.9). Last night was 285w for 57 mins
Sunday 315w for 22 mins but I was flagged for that as it was 4.2w/kg. |

Easiest way is to drop the meck into the smallest sprocket and undo the cable. You want to pull it finger tight though the mech and tighten up. Click up the gears and if it's not quite shifting up (click click sounds) wind the barrel adjuster out (maybe one one the mech, shifter or downtube on the frame on a road bike)
Check out how to vids to on you tube. |

"Campag, shimano or Sram, which one should i go for?"
Shimano
If only for ease of replacement parts
I've tried SRAM, & couldn't get on with the shifters
The phrase was
'Campag Wears In
Shimano Wears Out'
Not nowadays, the derailleurs on my work bike haven't been adjusted in over 3 years
It gets used '365', & also some woodland/bridleaway riding too
To the extent that the mudguards clog, & the wheels barely turn |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
I'm thinking campag,as they reckon the hoods are more ergonomic,i get rheumatism in my hands[probably to much wanking],not sure about the thumb button to drop down through the gears though,i take your point about shimano being cheaper/easier to fix,but campag is sexier, right??? |

I think the top end of campag is nice to use where as 105/ultegra/dura ace all feel similar. I’ve had campy and shimano and didn’t notice much of a difference in the hoods really |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
Hoods have certainly got bigger on Shimano
I still have one of my road-bikes, from 1994, & the 8-speed Ultegra STI is tiny compared to the 2007 Ultegra (STI) 10-speed on my CX bike
Others here;
2010 Ridley (Ultegra STI, 10-speed, getting bigger/longer)
2013 Ribble 'blue' (Tiagra 10-speed, nice to hold)
2015 Ribble HF83 (Ultegra 11-speed, getting too long)
2017 Ribble CGR (Ultegra hydraulic 'brifters') now it's getting silly!!
But.... the plumbing has to go somewhere!!! |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big)
I'm thinking campag centaur,i know its not top of the range, more similar to shimano 105,the the last time i had a road bike they still had downtube shifters so this is all new to me,on a different note does anyone watch the GCN channel on youtube,i really have a thing about Manon Lloyd |

Upgraded to a Cube Agree with Electronic shifters last summer, lockdown was great managed to get out for 50 miles every morning. But I'm in hiding till March & we're over the hump by Aug may look into a long ride down to Barcelona. |

Bikes need a service when the weather improves so we can get out.
Missing the Dunwich Dynamo, suspect it'll be 2022 for next time on that.
Hopefully a few sportives around the country though this year....fingers crossed

Pick the right day and just ride, you’ll soon remember why you liked it, maybe just avoid big hills on day 1. |

I love cycling. A couple of hours off road every other day. A chance to get outdoors, (usually) get muddy, and clear my mind.
The only chance I every get to ride anything, other than my motorbike. |

Got caught in a hail shower today and ended up with a penis like an inside out mole rat. "
Been there many times
Snow, sleet, hail
There's times l've raced Cyclo-Cross, & finished, & had to have my shoes/gloves removed for me, as l didn't have the manual dexterity to do so, due to numb fingers
Likewise, when l was fitter, & competed in fell-races, some of those were grim
I remember a couple that were almost cancelled due to the snow, & the prospect of competitors/signers-on not being able to get to the venue!!
Two hours in (race) shorts running around a moor certainly makes it disappear!!! |

I don't mind riding in all sorts of weather both road and off road. My main problem on the road bike this time of year is lack of mudguards and how shitty it all gets from wet roads. |

"Campag, shimano or Sram, which one should i go for?
Shimano or SRAM, Di2 or Red etap. Not all mechanics have the tools for Campag. My mate is Campag though and wouldn't have anything else, but he is a bit weird."
Loving Di2 on the road bike now it just works really well compared with having to keep adjusting cables, and the synchro shift features as well. |

Mudguards stay on my work-bike '365', plus good sized flaps
There's been cases of E-coli, with no 'guards in rural areas (or on bridleways)

Did an xc race and at the end a load of Ghurkas were bird bathing themselves and their bikes in the car park puddles. I went back to the accom I'd booked and had a nice shower. |

Plus, it was away from road-noise, so voices/trodden on branches could be heard |

I still have one of my road-bikes, from 1994, & the 8-speed Ultegra STI is tiny compared to the 2007 Ultegra (STI) 10-speed on my CX bike
Others here;
2010 Ridley (Ultegra STI, 10-speed, getting bigger/longer)
2013 Ribble 'blue' (Tiagra 10-speed, nice to hold)
2015 Ribble HF83 (Ultegra 11-speed, getting too long)
2017 Ribble CGR (Ultegra hydraulic 'brifters') now it's getting silly!!
But.... the plumbing has to go somewhere!!!"
I still ride my Harry Quinn. I built it as a 21st birthday present to myself, on one of his courses. Kitted out with campag record, CDA, chorus bits and pieces. |

My turbo just gave up yesterday
Looking at an Elite Suito
Does anyone have any views, as after looking around turbo's are like gold dust at the moment and my local bike shop is holding this one for me until today

I do a lot of cycling and fantasize about getting lucky whilst out on a ride in the countryside.
Nearest I ever got was one day when I was labouring up a steepish hill on a narrow road and I came up behind a girl on a horse. I gave her a warning that I was about to pass and as I was crawling past I noticed her riding crop in her boot.
As I was only going slow and standing to pedal, I said "I could do with a few smacks with your "crop" to speed me up.
I was gobsmacked when she gave me a few quick smacks across my backside and back whilst she laughed. My cock was twitching in seconds and I fantazise about it to this day about getting her in the stable and she sits on my face and I give her a good licking out till she is satisfied as she uses her crop on me. |

We both us used to use a Tacx Flux S but have both changed during lockdown to an Elite Direto X and XR respectively. Basically you can't get the X anymore, it has been replaced by the XR.
Both machines are more sensitive than the Tacx, especially on gradients. Pairing it quicker and instant. We'd both give a thumbs up to the Direto X R. |

You can't go wrong with BMC. Swiss engineered, the carbon frames are hi-tech. You'll potentially get Ultegra groupset with it for £2k. The only thing you'd look to upgrade would be the wheels but that's par for the course on most bikes below £5k. |
