The classic explanation is that men are attracted to youth and physical attractiveness as it relates to health and an ability to have many children. Women are attracted to power and strength as that would mean protection from predators and the resources to look after those children.
Though we hookup with people for different reasons now, those evolutionary drivers still largely determine what we find attractive. |

I was always more attracted to men aged between 30 and 39 which most of them happen to be older than me.
Men over 43 - don't do anything to me at all, not visually, not mentally.
Don't think it has anything to do with dominance or any age kinks.
It's just a mental maturity level I'm most comfortable with.

Girls tend to get mature earlier than boys. So, when men (in their teens/twenties) are struggling with their wild phase and confused about making serious decisions about life, women are about to get settled down in their life and look for a serious commitment rather than someone who is impulsive and continues to be self-centred.
Older men already know what they want from their life and it’s generally stability; they’re not going to mess with their partner or their partner’s life. Older men are likely to be financially more stable and established than younger men.
Older men don’t have to act like peacocks to attract a mate. They present themselves in a much subtler way; think personally tailored suit and Aston Martin rather than Top Shop off-the-peg and a Ford Fiesta with racing stripes and a blown exhaust.
Older men can provide their partners with the sense of emotional (patience, care and trust) and mental security which is one of the basic needs of any relationship. They tend to think critically and non-impulsively.

Growing up, men tend to mature slower than women, so as a teenager i was dating a couple years older. Growing up more, this increased a bit and i simply found older men attractive.
Think i took it a bit too far at a young age by dating someone 26 years older while i was entering my 20s. Just wasnt for me. He is still a dear friend and part of the family |

It's not as black and white as that. Though with older men they've at least had longer to grow up and also to learn a thing or two about how women's bodies work. Though I've met men 10+ years older where I felt like the more adult one and younger men who were mature and great in bed. As I said, not black and white. |

I must admit it's very rare to find a couple on here where the male is more than 5 years younger than the female. The vast majority of couples profile the male is older. And a large percentage of couples profiles on here where the male is 10 years plus on the female.
So definitely something in it. I suspect its partly subconsciously evolutional and based in gender norms and the division of power (not just financial). Obviously again a generalisation.

This made me think about research I heard about. Which makes me wonder if in general males make better partners when 30+. It looked at disproportionate criminality and prison populations in males. But it noted that generally repeat offending and criminality tends to burn out late 20s onwards. The guys tend to mellow out and grow out of it. So maybe there is something desirable in many men that doesn't really mature till later in life. I've know of a few men who married young but were totally different and better husband's to their 2nd or even 3rd wife. Likewise these next wives have been considerably younger. |

They seem to have more of a maturity when it comes to sex. Can seperate sex and relationships, have more respect for the couples dynamic.

I have met many young women in vanilla life who have appreciated the way older guys respect them. On Fabs, I, for one, like mto chat and socialise with all ladies in my preferred age range without any expectations. This seems to appeal to younger women who complain guys of their age are just into quickies and self-gratification. |

Personally, I think sexual preference is determined by environmental and social factors people are exposed to in their child development/teenage years, rather than the evolutionary perspective. Well that’s how I explain mine, because I’ve never been attracted to older guys. |

We are sort of reluctant to comment on this thread but at the same time we are relevant to it with a 35 year age gap.
We met at a fetish social but actually talked about common interests, art, architecture, antiquarian books, travelling and all sorts. We did a traditional romance (mostly at fetish clubs) and moved in together within weeks of meeting 5 years ago.
Age was and wasn't important and there are some interesting references above. We like to think that we are a good couple, still very much in love and share a huge amount of our lives aside of kink and swinging.
For is it is not about money, we both had our own properties before, we can afford a glam car but sooner plod around in a 5yo Nissan bug and spend money on stuff that is more important to us.
There are also some assumptions above, some quite cynical. They might have applied to your personal circumstances but not to all.
