Is it reasonable for people that choose to hide their profiles get the same benifits as other members.
Surely when your profile is inactive you should forfiet you right to _iew others and share the privilages of the site??

Who cares? If someone wants to hide for a while let them. There's a multitude of reasons why someone wanted to disappear for a while.

I thought a hidden profile you can still make contact with your friends just not on public display and if I send a wink when hidden then that person could reply x |

You can still reply to messages, and if you want to message them after a wink just use the link on the left of the page.
The only time you can't message people is if you are blocked/filtered. |

But please dont worry, Im def not inactive and rest assured Im still shagging the arse off lots of people - in fact all the activity plays havoc with my lumbago, but thats another story |

I have chosen to leave my profile on _iew as it took days to write it all out. Not going to delete any of it either.
I can kind of understand that if someone with a hidden profile messages someone then it's a bit odd... you go to have a look and there's nothing to see?!
But it's a free site. It says so on the home page.

Why shouldn't they be able to? If for whatever reason they have decided to hide their profile then they can no longer recieve any messages or have anyone _iew their profile, so if they decide to message you then that's up to them and you should just be flattered that they have taken the time to do it. Also some times they may have messaged you at a time when they were meeting then things happen and they have since hidden their profile. |

My profile is hidden just now, for many reasons.
I'm getting too much mail.
I'm not meeting.
The kiddo is off school so I can't meet.
I'm not feeling too well, so won't meet.
I still want to message friends and receive their messages.
Plus I mod in the chatrooms and don't want all the mail that that brings.
jeez .... should I just put a hijab on and go into purdah? |

We hid our profile a while back for about a month. But we still have friends on here so being able to message them was important.

when i know i cant meet for awhile for what ever reason but usually family commitments i hide my profile so i dont get messages from guys looking for meets who dont know me. Saves having to ignore messages and getting abuse for that or replying explaining the situation and it ending up a game of email tennis ! As it's been said everyone has the right to hide their profile if they wish |

I can see both sides of this discussion, so I'll play Devil's Advocate.
If someone is genuinely inactive then they possibly shouldn't be able to use the functionality of the site, e.g. messaging, winks, perving at pics, etc...
But how do you determine whether someone is inactive or not? Hiding it doesn't necessarily mean a user is inactive, as some have mentioned.
I see comments from people who either currently hide their accounts or have done so in the past saying that they wish to remain in contact with people they've befriended off the site. Maybe a solution, therefore, would be that if you choose to hide your account you can only message or wink at people who you've previously contacted - after all, that information is already stored as it's displayed when I _iew someone's profile who I've had contact with. If someone with a hidden account tries to initiate contact with someone who they've not previously contacted then perhaps a message could be displayed saying they need to unhide (or re-activate, if you prefer) their account first.
But even if this was implemented, wouldn't it lead to people unhiding their account temporarily, just to get around the restriction..? In which case, is it worth the effort if it's going to be circumvented so quickly and easily?
Perhaps another solution would be to make it so that hidden accounts are only hidden from people who haven't been contacted by the person hiding their account. If the reason people are hiding their accounts is because they don't want to have contact with people they're not already friends with, then perhaps this would work - if you've not already been in contact with that person then you don't get to see their profile, but if you have previously received a message or a wink or they've fabbed your photos then the profile is still accessible.
However, if someone has replied to a message simply saying, "thanks but no thanks" then does that warrant the recipient being able to still see a hidden profile?
Perhaps the answer should be to simply remove the ability to hide your profile. If you don't want people contacting you then you should make your photos private, you should change your profile description and enable filters so that people can't message you... would that be any better?
As I said in my opening line, I can see both sides of this argument so I don't propose to have "the right answer". But it is an interesting question.
