If it's with regards to people I know who have experienced both- I honestly don't know. They've just said that they prefer it. This is a single-digit number of folk, so, it's hardly conclusive.
If in regards to "the science being anecdotal at best," well- to the best of my knowledge- there has never been any work that quantifies satisfaction of cut vs. uncut.
I have just realised, though, that in regards to both there is another definition of "prefer," and that is "I think 'x' looks better." Again I'm not aware of a definitive study, but I think the 'cuts' would win that one.
Although again, most respondants wouldn't have seen one like mine close up, which is cut, but not in infancy. |

I had to have a later-in-life circumcision because of a condition called phimosis. Without getting too graphic, my foreskin was causing me pain when it was drawn back. This wasn't always the case, for me it got worse as I entered my late twenties.
So, compared to when I was say 28, handjobs are more fun. But compared to when the phimosis wasn't so pronounced, I don't think it's quite the same.
But then, that was also a long time ago.

I was circumcised shortly after my fifth birthday for medical reasons. I don’t even remember having a foreskin.
I have never felt any insecurity about the appearance of my penis.
I have never been shamed for the appearance of my penis.
I had never considered that circumcision-shaming was even a thing until I joined this forum, where the procedure is talked about like it’s a mutilation so horrifying that its victims must be ostracised by all you “good” and “normal” folk.
There is quite a bit of scarring around my glans. You can even see where a couple of the stitches were. This causes me zero discomfort. Nobody else – partners or medical professionals – have ever passed comment on it.
What has attracted comment, however, is how clean and tidy it is. The lack of a foreskin means, and I quote, “No nasty surprises.” That feedback comes from someone who has almost certainly sucked more dicks than you ever will.
In fact, only *one* partner has ever said anything even remotely… “negative”, I guess? And only then because she’d never encountered a circumcised penis before. Quote again: “I’m not sure what to do with it”. She figured it out very quickly though, and it has not been remarked upon since.
I cannot comment on whether it has reduced my sensitivity – five years old, remember. However, I *am* abnormally insensitive. I can fuck for hours, I have never prematurely ejaculated, and it’s almost impossible to get me off with mouth and hands. That’s fine, though – neither of those things feel anything like as good as a vagina.
Therefore, on balance, I consider my circumcision to be a good thing.

interesting perspective re hand jobs. i was circumcised at birth for religious reasons so can not pass comment on the difference. i will admit that lubrication is key as i have experienced a few occasions that a hand job can be slightly painful without. it will also depend on how the ‘givers’ technique adapts to a cut cock. it can feel quite harsh which to be fair some guys like!! as for me a mixture of a sloppy blow job/hand job with loads of lubrication (saliva and precum) wins every time |

I’m also circumcised.
For medical reasons, I was circumcised when I was young 5/6/7? (I don't remember much about it).
So I don’t ever remember having a foreskin.
For this reason it's difficult for me to say or compare what it's like as a comparison to being uncut. As it's something I've lived with and just' 'used' all my life.
I remember a few years ago sat around with a Fab friend and we were chatting about it and it was like... I've never really considered much about it. Obviously she wanted to check (for medical research)
I might be lucky as we couldn't see any visible scarring etc.

To echo some of the comments on here, was circumcised for medical reasons quite late in the day (20s).
There Is some scarring from where the stitches were done near the cut, so aesthetically it causes quite a distinct change in skin tone. I've not had any feedback otherwise to it being something that's noticeable during the act though.
What I do remember and can concur is that there is a markedly noticeable change in sensitivity of the head. Prior to the surgery, the barest contact against the exposed head was extremely sensitive to stimulation. Immediately post op, this was a right pain as the slightest contact would anything was just an assault of sensation where previously it wasn't getting as much (predictably I got this loose skirt/sarong type thing to wear about the house at that time). My feeling is that the extreme sensitivity of the head got dulled enough in that recovery period that it was no longer painful to essentially wear underwear. In hindsight I think it was actually the soreness of the cut skin that was really the issue because I'm not less sensitive during sex.
Anyway, it's not something that took a hit on my confidence. I used to joke rather wryly that I was losing precious length I didn't have to lose but overall I've been very happy since because it's obviated any concerns that would've arisen from phimosis for example.
That's my two thoughts. |

Non-medical reasons include:
- religion (it's a big deal in both Judaism and Islam)
- social pressure (75% of males in US are circumcised, versus 20.7% in the UK; whichever minority you're in your country, you're going to get bullied in the changing rooms).
Medical reasons can include:
- phimosis (a foreskin that doesn't retract properly), as already explained
- balanitis (inflammation of the glans, with multiple possible causes)
- balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans *and* foreskin, with multiple possible causes)
- recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs).
There are a bunch of additional benefits that include reducing the risk of infection with:
- HIV (to the point where the World Health Organisation promotes circumcision to help control the spread in countries where HIV is endemic)
- the cancer-causing types of human papillomavirus (HPV)
- syphilis
- chancroid
- Type-2 herpes simplex virus (HSV-2) (possibly by as much as 28%).
So yeah, I'm not in love with the idea of lopping bits off people unless one absolutely has to, but there are certainly arguments in its favour.

As Astbury mentions there are many reasons and positives for it, mine just over 2 years ago was due to phimosis which became incredibly painful for around a year as Drs wanted to try a steroid cream to attempt to ease the tightness before considering operation.
There are downsides mostly around sensitivity of the head which is technically a good thing when it comes to sex but also an annoyance in everyday life, at least until the body adjusts to the sensitivity (mine hasn't yet).
For example, i used to be a boxers guy but the constant rubbing while walking or moving in general isn't a pleasant sensation when not in an arroused state so all my boxers are gone and replaced with pants to hold it still and minimise rubbing.
I also used to sleep naked but thats a no go for similar reasons so now wear pants to bed. This also has downside with morning wood as pants are restrictive and sometimes not adjusted to enable free growth so can be a painful wake up to adjust/free it.
Finally masturbation is different. Masturbation is still possible without lube but its not as comfortable without the skin which allows skin to slide up and down easier, also retaining pre-cum and sliding over the head which is its own pleasurable sensation. To get the similar sort of sensation requires some lube now which can make it a little messier and not as convenient.
So yes i do miss having a foreskin as things aren't as convenient or comfortable yet but i don't regret the decision to do it because of the constant pain the phimosis was causing every day especially when i became erect causing more micro splits and damage, pain and further tightness when healed making the cycle worse.
Sorry, not a pretty description but is an honest one for my experience. |
