I like to make solo play videos, which I do using my phone. But that means I have to choose between showing my whole body, or showing just a closeup of the “action”. Ideally I’d like to be able to film both at the same time and edit them together.

So I think I need a separate camera, but I don’t know what would be suitable. It needs to produce video that would be compatible with the iPhone footage, and I want to be able to transfer the video onto my phone directly as I do my editing on my phone. It would need to work with a tripod or something, and have a reasonable zoom as I wouldn’t want it to be in the shot captured by my phone. I don’t want to spend a fortune, but I want something decent. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or alternatively, is there a way to do this that I haven’t thought of? Thanks!

Why not get an iPhone tripod? Normally not that expensive and can prop it up somewhere where you’re filming

I have two different tripods, but that doesn’t let me take two different videos at the same time.

You could get another iPhone (maybe an older model if you don’t want to spend too much) then set them both on camera stands, one on zoom, one wide angle. Then just load all footage onto phone to edit. Alternatively a remote for your phone which could zoom in and out although that footage wouldn’t be simultaneous. Good luck !

Yep ^^^ a second cheap old iPhone is going to be much less faff (airplay file transfer etc) than a different camera or android phone.

Cheap tripods are possible but tend to be very fragile, we’ve had better luck with those flexible phone holders “octopus” that you can wrap around anything, a chair leg etc.

Those stands are excellent and not expensive. I’ve used my loads for zoom meetings (work only, nothing more exciting!) and they’re much more adaptable than a tripod.

That’s reminded me that I think my ancient 4S is still knocking about somewhere, if it still functions that might be a good shout. I have a remote, but it’s literally only a shutter button, it doesn’t do anything fancy like zooming.

I have one of those, it’s great! Especially because it works with the footboard of my bed, which is very handy.

Alternatively, I'd be delighted to bring my camera over and do all the shots for you. Zooming in and out to your heart's content!

Good plan to use several cameras. My suggestion would be either a GoPro or the DJI action camera. The reason apart from them being half decent cameras is that they come with pretty good and simple editing software.

Cheap alternative - film your play with all in view, then re film as close up, they may not match exactly, but who will really care.

I guess you know CamKix products? They do lots of clever iPhones add on and remotes at reasonable prices.

I’d thought about that, but it seems like a bit of a chore rather than fun, especially if it’s messy.

Are they easy to transfer straight to an iPhone?

The 4s might be better doing the wide angle, and use your normal phone for the closeups? The newer lenses should be better on zooming.

Oh, the zoom on my new phone is insanely good, and probably way more than I’d need! I’ll have to experiment though - the wide angle camera is also so good that I might not want to sacrifice that.

Edinburgh.

Film on 2 iPhones at the start. Start that both the clap your hands together like a clapper board at a film. Then edit your two films together in the software that comes free with Apple. Just use the one continuous soundtrack. You might even use more devices!

If you want to go down the GoPro route, you can pick up the older models pretty cheaply. Latest model is the Hero 9, but the 7 or 8 would be plenty good enough

"Why would I want to involve someone else, lose control of the footage, and spoil the mood?"

You would have ALWAYS kept control of the footage. The memory card gets ejected and it's your to edit.

When my partner and I first started doing pictures together, we found it a HUGE turn on for somebody else to be in the room, and we found the pictures were much better quality. Far from spoiling the mood, it was a real enhancer.

But I appreciate it's not for everyone and our tastes obviously differ in that respect.

Cheers,

Gbat.

It’s solo play, that’s the whole point. I don’t want anyone else there, because then it isn’t solo anymore. I did also make it clear that I edit everything on my phone, I don’t want a memory card from a camera, I can’t do anything with that. This was a post asking for advice, which is what I’ve had from most people, not asking for a random stranger in my bedroom making me feel weird.

A bit late but I use a Go Pro, an old Samsung S8 (with no SIM) and an iPhone.

I have the iPhone and Samsung linked to my Google Photos account so I can access the footage on either camera and do the editing.

The Samsung phone has a superior camera to my iPhones, so I use that more for taking inages.

The Go Pro footage can be transferred to the cloud and edited on the phones, but I typically end up using the laptop, so it only gets used for longer meets. I also set it up and don’t move it as often.

My preference these days would be to just use a couple of old phones with decent cameras and storage.

one thing that hasnt been mentioned between the phones select the same frames and picture dimensions.

These will give you quality over the video footage and easier to merge them.

Hello OP. What you need to do is get me, an experienced cameraman to do the filming for you. We could get several scenes done at one time and I could edit as well.

Word of warning to those contemplating this - some pro cameras have 2 card slots and can write to both cards at once. So although you may give a card and watch it be ejected and you have the images, they may also have them.

It's also possible to connect a phone to some pro cameras and transfer the images that way.

My advice if you want someone you don't fully trust to take pics and you want to ensure the images stay private? They use your camera. Only real way to know the images will fully stay with you.

I didn’t know that, but I do always assume that if someone is using their own camera, they’ll have some way of keeping hold of the photos or videos, or they wouldn’t be offering.

Go pro’s are expensive. Get itself a dji osmo gimble, just put your phone on and you can have like follow me mode, wave to start recording etc and also easy to edit. Videos will be saved directly on your phone. You can send me a vid to check out lol

You and the other person are both outside my age range, him by a huge margin, so yeah I don’t want to be propositioned by you. I have age filters on for that very reason.

The fact that it’s a swinging site doesn’t mean I have to make myself available to any man who offers, especially when there was nothing in my post to suggest I want a live audience.

Ok So Filmora 9 free and is easy to hack as well to get rid of the watermark.

If you have got mac they already have pretty good video software uploaded.

Generally when people are trying to level up video you generally you focus on audio first. Because people ate more likely to switch off if they can't hear you no mater how good the video is. But I am not sure about porn. Invest in a shot plug into your phone.

The next thing you want to invest in is lifting and this is actually once of the cheaper investments, a basic ring light is good enough and you can get small ones they place on the phone so you can do selfie shots. Ring lights also double up as tripods. You may also want more than one angle.

If you are doing webcam do not use a webcam but use a dslr, camera or your (old) phone plugged into the laptop (and you may need a capture card). That way got got in theory a computer powering the webcam alone and another computer powering the other bits.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, it does. Sound seems to be pretty good with my iPhone, but you’re right that bad sound would be offputting, people like clear audio of this sort of thing

I do have a ring light but I’m considering getting something else as well for a more diffuse light, either another light or possibly a reflector so I don’t have to have the light angled straight at me.

The app I use is Kinemaster, it can be a bit fiddly sometimes to do things frame by frame but I’ve had good results with it so far.

Reflectors are generally better outside where you can reflect the suns natural light back on to your skin. However will defiantly give you a softer light.

I would suggest that it's not so much what camera you use but more to do with the lighting. Look up on the interent led lighting for filming. Message me if you want more details

Lighting- if this is something you are going to do often, I’d recommend investing in some proper LED lighting. Contrary to another post on here bouncing the light off a reflector works very well, and for close up smut, reducing hard shadows works well. DM me if you want details of lights etc.
