Would be better if you explained to the other person that you are interested to try it and learn together - nothing worse than having a person pretend they know how. |

Shibaristudy has great beginners video that explains safety first and foremost. Also check out theduchy too.
Rorys Brainworks and SkorpionRope on YouTube are great. Rory likes to emphasise safety aspects whilst making it practical and pretty! |

My main tip would be for you to properly understand why it is you want to do ropes.
Is it because you want to impress someone else or is it for your own development?
This its all about
Safety
Safety
Safety
Don't lie about your ability to any potential play partner, its their life on the line. |

Learning about safety is essential because rope is Edgeplay. Because ropeplay seems innocuous people can end in trouble. As someone who tied before he found rope, you realise when you read about rope safety all the way things can go wrong. So when people insist on safety it is as friendly advice.
The knowing what you want to do, if you have not done rope before I think is difficult. I say this because there so many different styles of rope.
Firstly sexual or non-sexual.
There is Western v Asian. If you do Western are you doing the Knotty Boy route, the Lew Ruben's route or or Matt Williams who ties for the Kink site?
If you want to do Asian don't forget the Chinese have their style of tying. But most people think Japanese.
If you do Japanese (accepting there is some crossover in Western and Asian styles) is it again for pretty rope, is it for performance,is it for kinabaku?
If it is Kinbaku are you going Yukimaran, or Naka style or one of rhe other schools or rope.
My suggestion would be to learn the basics (of single columns and double columns) and safety and see where your rope muse leads you.
