Why is it when I make a post in the forum rather than discussing it in the forum people are compelled to send a message.

This get on my tits so much that any post on the forum results in 10 or 12 private mails.

I get that too. Many have said they are too shy to reply in the forum which i find strange.

I generally reply in the forum, although occasionally I might have something to say in regard to a post that I want to say to an individual rather than in public for everyone to see. On those occasions I'll send a private message

But I don't do it just for the sake of sending individual messages

Do I win anything for this approach?

It is so annoying especially if it is regarding a post you made a couple of days ago and maybe made 3 or 4 replys to the same thread. It can become confusing as to what they are referring to

"I get that too. Many have said they are too shy to reply in the forum which i find strange."

I suspect that they’re expecting a great “hit rate” from PMs that they think will show they are Forumites and not just chancers.

I get the odd direct message . Makes my day as it’s rare to have the ‘message’ thing light up.

So tempted to send some private messages agreeing with the fact it's annoying...

Sorry!

We get that. I don't mind so much if it is a positive post but sometimes its to be bitchy to us. Like this morning K posted something in the covid is it real thread and some arsehole responds in a direct message to us in an aggressive manner. He said feck all on the forum

As a single guy I feel I need to ask, can someone explain to me what a private message is? Don't think I've ever came across one on this site? Lol

That I don't believe.

A message sent to you private not in forum.

The Mafia tend to tear them apart if they post something they feel is inappropriate like walking in a minefield at times.

It's a risk you take that someone will send unwelcome messages from the forum, unfortunately.

I used to write threads not now. Not going to ever again. As for responding to posts yes, I do but if I wanted to private message someone I might.

I am not bothered if people message me. I don't lose sleep over anything on here. Take with pinch of salt. Have some fun.

Cheers fab for the fun times.

Crazy times behest us all.

I've had a few of these. Figured that they'd hit the "Reply privately" button by accident. It's a weird option to have placed so prominently.

They think it’ll get them “in” and that you’ll talk to them because of it. The same thing happens if I post a status, so I don’t do that anymore.

The worst ones are those who send an abusive message and then block you so you can't reply.

Just don't bother replying, not worth the effort!

It is really that much of a drama?

The forums have that facility built into them.

We all receive welcome and unwelcome messages on this site and not just through the forums. They go with the territory.

I have received some very nice supportive messages for some of my posts from people who said they didnt feel brave enough to post something themselves.
