Correction title should be D/S not BDSM.
I have been reading a series of articles on the other site by a MasterArden where the author expressed the above sentiment.
He further mentions that modern BDSM is a victim of its own success. In that from the 80's and 90's there was a certain amount of reinvention of BDSM to gain public acceptability. This brought in people who are not interested in full power exchange and who have redefined many concept in BDSM.
As an example in SSC,because it was created in the 80's "safe" meant practices safe from aids and not health and safety safe.
Clearly there is lot more to the point put forward such as the power exchange requires proper negotiation, integrity, skills responsibility and consent (however consent has a specific meaning). In a way it chimes with some things I believe but challenges others.
Because you are an experienced bunch I would be interested in your views. |
