Hastings is an attractive English seaside resort town overlooking the English Channel that's popular for its sporting and cultural events, as well as for its association with the famous Battle of Hastings of 1066 (an event that in fact took place at Battle, six miles away). Although its importance as one of the Cinque Ports ended due to a series of destructive floods and repeated attacks by the French at the end of the 14th century, the town experienced another heyday in the 19th century when it became a tourist destination for the higher classes of society, taking Brighton as its model
Top recommended things to do include taking the East Hill Cliff Railways, the UK's steepest funicular railway, up to Hastings Country Park, with its incredible views over the English Channel as well as access to some 850-plus acres of nature reserve to explore.
Looks like a railway job and a picnic whilst enjoying the view over the English Channel ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Thanks for the tips, and the history lesson (never knew it was one of the Cinque Ports). The railway might be something to do - particularly if there’s nice views. |

"Keep going in the country park and you will find the naturist beach. If that is the socialising you are after? "
We’re both chilly mortals, so while the naturist beach is more like the socialising we’re after, the weather is not likely to be warm enough for us to partake. |

"There are quite a few pubs in Hastings old town. I'm fact the old town is a nice place to wander round anyway.
Hope the weather stays fine for you. "
Thank you for the tips, the old town seems like it’s a nice place to visit. The forecast is for it to be predominantly dry, but not particularly hot. You can’t have everything, lol. |
