I think it was the head of some top girls school that said it. It wasn't just the Kardashians mentioned in dispatches but the cast of Jersey Shores, TOWIE, Big Brother et al.

Thing is have you ever heard a young girl say she wants to be Judge Judy, Kate Adie or Prime Minister? Bet you've heard them say they'd like to be Amy Child's, Jordan or Cheryl Cole!

Why would they??

I am surrounded at university by many young women in the 18-25 range who LOVE these women because they get all the shoes, dresses and hot buff men.

These things pander to a young womans mind and ideals.

Politicians are hardly good role-models seeing how bent and corrupt they are.

They also lack moral fibre, real world logic and traditional values.

I cant remember the name of the film, where a man is cryogenically frozen and ends up in the future where its not cool to be intelligent.

I actually believe it is happening.

People becoming entranced in other peoples lives/lifestyles and not taking a look at the other things around them in the world(or outwith)

They are all happy to use the latest tech gizmos etc, but very few could tell u what a a megabyte is.

whether I get shot down for this I dont care, but I blame much of the entertainment geared towards female society for this-and so would probably most feminists. For years struggling to get equality on issues etc etc, a woman with a wanted figure and big boobs with not much working upstairs, can encapsulate the country with her lifestyle and success..and by fuck the success is by going to parties and such ffs, giving a bj here n there...(and getting sneakily caught)

The scores of people who watch entertainment as such as jeremy kyle,BB-and buy the weekly magazines

every kid thinking they can be a popstar rather than a doctor, scientist, explorer

to top it all off...its really just throwaway fame.

eventually when people start realizing its pretty boring watching someone 24/7 and appreciate other things around them maybe some things will progress.

I'm not a judgmental person on peoples intelligence, but its easy to see how its gradually appearing to lessen in people.

I dont want to go back in time either to when it was all good..It would just be good if people maybe explained to some here is a vast wealth of things that dont involve peoples showbiz lives..or wannabeshowbiz lives

Its only the western countires, mainly the UK and America that have a brain

drain because of the showbusiness way of life.

Pakistan and India have most of their young populace going into engineering and the sciences.

Eastern Bloc countires have their people into a lot of manual labour.

Western countries are by far and wide in serious trouble when it comes to engineering, science & technology graduates.

Well said Mr Keen. I feel like I fought the war in the 80's and 90's on equality and altho I love that a lot of young women today have confidence and some self esteem, I do feel that their values are very "plastic". Its all about instant gratification nowadays, including personal success.

.....thats just my pennethworth!

Keen and Lush I'm with you on this one.

There was a report a couple of years ago with the analysis of a survey of 15-18 year olds. Almost half stated their ambition was to be famous. No skill, talent or perspiration, just famous.
