Why do people go AWOL after planning?

I am sure I am not the only one who had this happened to them, but often you are lucky (or unlucky) and get into a conversation with someone and you seem to get along well with and an arrangement to meet happens. All seem fine and you go ahead with the plan to meet them. Unfortunately, on the day of the meet or even worse when you reach the location of meet (often travelling a reasonable distance) they go AWOL.

This seems really harsh and mean to me. Atleast a message back to say you are no longer interested or can't meet for a certain reason would be sufficient. I feel really gullible sometimes, specially when you consider some of these people have multiple verifications through meet.

Fortunately I have only had this happened to me about 5 times in 5 years from 5 different profiles so not a common occurrence, but I would definitely make a request to other people to please not play with other's feelings and expectations and genuinely consider if they are willing to meet up before arranging any plans.

To the people who have been in my shoes stay optimistic. You may have actually been better off without the meet. Who knows things could have been even worse such as from being theft to being physically and mentally harmed.

Also some people have very genuine reasons such as a sudden real life emergency which would take priority and that is fair and a conversation afterwards can reduce the bitterness some may feel.

PS feeling a lot better after stating this out in the forum haha.

Because they can.

And there's not much you can do about it.

You seem like an experienced fabber so shouldn't be as gullible as many newbies who don't realise the amount of fakes. Take it on the chin and move on. That's why we're very cautious and selective. We meet at clubs where there are real people.

Unfortunately all part of the fab roulette, i never take anything for granted until i physically meet them.

So many times chat for ages, get on well, pics exchanged, then excuses start.......
