By the state of the room they're in when looking at their photos?

Does it make a difference if they're in a really messy bedroom or by a toilet in their pics?

Would it put you off messaging them?

Definitely, a messy background is off putting. A toilet in the background is ok if the bathrooms clean.

Definitely, we’re far from snobs. But if someone can’t be arsed about tidying and cleaning their room, we doubt if they take much care about their personal hygiene too. Maybe that’s a bit of a generalisation, and we’re sure there are people out there that this does not apply to, but we like to play it safe.

That's an interesting way of looking at it and possibly a good indication of self care and hygiene for sure.

I think it says that maybe they're a bit lazy too, that doesn't translate well when it comes to potential conversations/meetings.

I am not the most houseproud person, but if you can’t make any effort with your photos, including checking the background, then you probably don’t make much effort in other areas of life.

I love the ones where they say they are single but there’s clearly women’s toiletries in the background.

I'll be honest. State of the room doesn't bother me if they're sexy and someone I'd like to fuck. But I sometimes become a curious bitch and look at the background closely for random stuff.

Love the level of observation there, that's quite impressive. Must say I have similar abilities and can pick up on the weirdest things

Absolutely.

We have teenagers in the house that must have their own personal issue "let's f@*k up every room in the house" explosive devices that immediately after denotation scatters their clothes, cutlery, rubbish and any other crap that needs discarding all over the place. But always make sure things get tidied away and cleared up. Not hard at all to make some effort and be tidy and clean, especially when promoting yourselves in pics

We regularly roar with laughter about this very thing. Honestly the state of some places.

We once actually went to a guys flat and he had a xmas tree up in his bedroom in the middle of June lol

Yep. I judge people on a lot of things when it comes to meets on here. Presentation is very important, if you don't care about yourself or your surroundings you're not going to care about anything else.

I don't mean that you have to live in a !mansion or be a perfect physical specimen but wherever you live or whatever your body is like be proud of it and look after it.

Clothes and many of them just scattered in the background, a random pizza box and a few half empty glasses, that type of thing really does put us off. translates as lazy and can't be bothered types.

Never considered it judging, but we definitely check out the background on photos we look at. True story, one background featured a large dry erase board with a calendar and an appointment for a colonoscopy. You cannot make that stuff up!

Hahaha see I do have an observation on the whole toilet/messy room pic thing

(Man takes photo with toilet in the background or mess)

General commentary along the lines of 'what a mess, if they cannot even clean their room/bathroom then what must their personal hygiene be like etc'

(Woman takes photo with toilet in the background or mess)

Photo gets so many fabs it hits page 1 of hotpics.

I'm not even joking, I have seen pics of a woman over a toilet on hotpics and no one batted an eyelid, or with rooms a teenager would be ashamed, but they are still very popular

If the background looks messy and dirty then you have imagine the individual is as well.

Wouldn't want to meet someone who belongs in an episode of hoarders!

Yeah, it would put me off too. I do tend to look at the background, and the surroundings. As others have said, if they don't care about where they live, it would make me question their attitude to their own personal hygiene. Its all about how you present yourself, and I would suspect that those who make no effort are probably going to be the same on a meet.

I think of it as the first impression you make, like the message you send. So I think it matters if your pictures are clear and clutter free. I'm also more attracted to clean and clear photography too, despite who/whatever is in it.

Spent many a time looking at a background of a photo on here rather than the actual person in it and that's not good lol

In the process of carrying out a lot of refurbishment work at the moment, finances and the fact that materials being virtually impossible to purchase at the moment has put a hold on this.

Some people are limited in space which can create an issue with storage.

They may well may have the highest level of personal hygiene, but agree with previously said more time on hands to do some spring cleaning.

Not hard to make the effort and does not take long if you keep on top of it.

To me there is a massive difference between messy and dirty. I work 14 hour shifts in blocks of 5 so the house starts spotless and after 5 days of work, home, dump everything, sleep and repeat its messy by day 5, but its hygenically kept spotless. I would never post a photo taken in a messy room though.

Very true about first impressions, especially on here. Quick flick through photos and it's very much the deciding factor between that and the bio.
