I know the guy this is about reads the forums so hopefully together we can give him the help he needs.

He suffers with depression & has told me this morning he took an overdose last night & is now in hospital....prior to this I pleaded for him to ring the Samaritans & I have again this morning...can any of you offer him other means of advice or support please?. I too suffer with mental health issues but not to this extent...

Someone needs to make sure he either isn't discharged or if he is, that he gets plenty of follow up/intensive home based treatment, until he feels a bit better.

Mental Health services are very hit and miss in my experience, particularly in this neck of the woods.

My world fell apart last year. If i hadnt been found by my ex wife, i wouldn't be writing this.

Mental breakdown of any kind is a tragedy.

I finally got the help i needed after hiding a secret for 40yrs.

Not before id gone into heart failure. I have been lucky to have a supportive family and friends and sometimes even talking to a stranger can help.

My wife couldn't handle it and we divorced last September. If you have a concern about a friend or loved one, just take a bit of time to check if they are OK... There is no shame in not being able to cope. But there is a alasting stigma for those left behind. Kindness never hurt any one

Hopefully you are ok now? I fear with what's going on now it's going to affect a lot of people's mental health now & into the future.....

Im fine thank you.

The hospital psychiatric team is the start.

Its the wait for the community follow up that takes it toll.

I sincerely hope that your friend doesn't loose faith in the wait.. It does help

But if people listen in the first place a lot of this can be avoided.

That's great to hear

He is only a friend off here not met,but have chatted a lot..

Hopefully he will get the help he needs.

I was diagnosed 30 plus years ago with anxiety & depression but have learnt to live with it & am certainly better at dealing with it now, for every negative thought I have I counter it with a positive one...

Hopes he's getting the support now. Lots of mental health charities out there.. Just connecting to right one.

Jack meoff helped me last year. Spoke every day for 6wks till he asked me my name... And now still truly cares.. He's 500miles away. But felt close when no one was.

Hopefully this thread will make us contect friendships knowing we can shout out

Great thread OP. Sometimes I find it's easier to talk to a stranger with no judgement. Hope he is ok and getting the help and support he needs. I think at this time we all need someone we can turn to.

"

So long as he hasn't been discharged without follow up visits, medication and a proper care plan. Going home is sometimes better than being kept in.
