we often get invited to house parties, and yes we love them, and often say yes, then comes the message, oh btw there is a 30 pound cover charge, but dont worry you get a glass of fizz when you arrive, ffs i want to get pissed out of my head for that.
if i want to go to a club and pay those prices then i will, but a private party is just that, and money should not come into it, it doesnt cost much to put on a party. |

I would say it does take time and effort to arrange a house party and you are being invited into someone's home where breakage etc happen and the time and effort they have put into cleaning up providing play areas etc so should be thought about.
Also sometimes asking for a deposit stops those yes wannabes who are ohhh so keen till it comes to actually bothering to turn up and leaving you with an empty house party.
I feel a small contrabution is ok I'd say £20 after all they are hosting anything more is a mock take! X |

It's possible whoever's hosting it has rented out the house for the weekend (Airbnb I guess) and is trying to recoup costs. Certainly seen that sort of thing happen before but you never know what the situation is. Who ever is hosting needs to be clear about it upfront though. |

Very true - there is also often a LOT of laundry after a party too..... |

I wished I was financially comfortable enough for £20 to be a 'small contribution'. |

Some house parties in London charge £30 - £40 for single guys , £20 - £30 couples and £10 or free for single ladies.Generally bring your own booze free soft drinks and nibbles. At the end of the day we are all adults if we feel it’s too much don’t pay it and don’t go.If we feel it’s a fair price then go along socialize , make friends and have a good time.As a single guy I personally have no problem with those prices that I have mentioned after all you go the first time if it’s not for you you don’t go again. |

"£30 is nothing! Your being invited into some ones home! They probably spent all day cleaning, putting on fresh sheets. They have to clean up after you too! "
It might be 'nothing' to you, but if I'm asked to pay that much for a house party, I'd rather go to a swingers club, where I get charged about that much as a couple with my partner. Then even if we don't find anyone to play with, we get access to facilities, hot tub etc. |

I’d agree. Much prefer a club. |

Think it depends if it’s more of a “professional, regular” type party, open to all, where the hosts are trying to at least cover their costs or make a few quid, or if it’s an occasional house party for actual friends.
When we finally get round to organising our fab friends party (Airbnb), we are probably gonna be very English about it and be far too bashful to ask for any financial contribution, but please feel free to bring a bottle. |
