I’ve had 2 now & both have been different, first one was a breeze, second one not so much. Nowt but hassle but if I don’t have this I’m back on 15 tablets a day. Mother Nature hates me

My 22 yr old daughter had one fitted whilst in surgery for endometriosis treatment. 4 weeks later she’s still bleeding and has mild cramps. Surgeon did tell her is can take a couple of months to be completely settled |

I've had coils, both copper and mirena, dound the food old fashioned copper coil the best, again like the other women have said mild period pains for a few days and then nothing....it worked great...they did take a few months to settle into my body tho and for them to do what they should of.... I.e less painful periods, lighter flow, didnt last weeks on end and of course protection from in wanted pregnancy was instant...good luck, just please rem_mber to check your threads after your period...and if your sexual partner gets pricked in the head the threads are either to short or they need trimming. With my first one was a copper one and I had horrendous cramping for the first two days. Worse than periods. Then it just suddenly stopped and I was fine. I had it swapped for a mirena one after a couple of years and I was dreading the pain but it wasn't anywhere near as bad. I just felt a bit delicate for a few days. I found the mirena great other than it randomly coming out on its own 2 years in. Apparently that's not very common though. |

I felt like I pulled a muscle in my hip that twinged for a few days but no cramping at all. After it was in I felt nothing.
A friend of mine was in agony for about a week after she had hers fitted. She had really bad cramping. I’d give it a few more days and if you’re not sure, maybe go back in and speak to someone. We’re all different so it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ answer which isn’t very helpful x |

I had period type pain for a couple of days. I hope it gets better soon And if it doesn't go see the practice nurse they tend to know far more than GPs about coils.
Hugs for crappy pain

I had a merina coil fitted in hospital, I have spotting for a few days and period pain cramping. Had spotting on and off for 6 months but nothing major, then nothing.
I’m happy with my coil..... though I know friends who have tried and didn’t like! Just down to your body I guess.
All the best x |

Eeek rem_mber those days well. I have the copper IUD. Thinking about it, it will need replacing soon as I’ll have had it 5 years soon. Not looking forward to that day. Glad you are feeling a bit better today |

Obviously check your specific brand but most copper coils last 10 years |

Pretty much as others have said, everyone is different, I've heard some horror stories. I bled for 16 weeks with awful cramps for a week but nearly 2 years later the periods are so much more bearable. The slight bleed after rough sex isn't pleasant but only lasts a couple days. Hope your cramps fade soon x |

Every woman is different, myself I bleed for 6weeks solid had awful cramps and back pains, headaches, mood swings but after that settled back down....although my coil now is low down and tilted....either from my body trying to expel it or it wasn't put in right in the first place....good luck.xxx |
