Safe Oral?

Hi!
I just love giving oral to completion on fellow CD/TV or guys, but for the last year or so have insisted on condoms as I’m a bit paranoid about catching a STD.
Is it really a big risk to suck without a condom?
I’m not promiscuous and am very choosy about who I meet, so it’s not like I’m a porn star or anything like!
What are your thoughts?
Anyone ever caught anything via oral?

Of course they have but most here will tell you it's a personal choice and not as risky as bareback intercourse.
Which, of course, it is.
Likewise it's our choice to avoid
From the NHS website
The most common STIs that can be passed on through oral sex include:
herpes
gonorrhoea
syphilis
Other STIs that are passed on less commonly through oral sex include:
chlamydia
genital warts
hepatitis A
hepatitis B
hepatitis C
HIV
pubic lice
The risk is generally higher if you give rather than receive oral sex. This is because you're more likely to be exposed to genital fluids.
The risk is also higher if you have cuts, sores or ulcers in your mouth. Avoid brushing your teeth or using dental floss shortly before giving oral sex as this could cause your gums to bleed. If you want to freshen your mouth first, you could try mouthwash or mints.
If you think you may have an STI, see a GP or go to your nearest sexual health or genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic.
How can I make oral sex safer?
For oral sex on a man, use a condom to reduce your risk of getting an STI. Try a flavoured one if you do not like the taste of regular condoms.
For oral sex on a woman, or when performing anilingus, use a dam. This is a small, thin square of latex or plastic that acts as a barrier between the vagina or anus and the mouth, preventing the spread of STIs. |

The risk is not as high as other sexual acts and for me it's worth the risk.. I would rather give up sex than use a condom for oral or have a dam used on me.
You get some that turn round and try to argue If you dont use a condom for oral you may as well not use one for full sex but while still a risk.. it is much lower than for unprotected fullsex. |

"It's like a game of Russian Roulette ..
Take your chance but you won't know what you collect until after oral without protection is not that risky x"
Yes it is. I know of people who have caught from oral in a club. Penetrative was always with protection but no oral. |

"But still a game of chance..
There are those who will persuade you otherwise..but it's Russian Roulette all the same.." my advice comes from the clinic I attend 4 weekly... and my own personal experience. |

gonorrhoea sits at the back of the throat. Only takes one single bacteria to the penis for it take hold and there’s millions in there. If they are infected you can get it from oral. Simple as that. |

Very much personal choice and a matter of "risk versus reward" I suppose. I've rarely had bareback penetrative sex in my 43 years on the planet, yet conversely I've never once given or received oral with a condom or dam, or been asked to. I'd wear a condom for a blow job if asked, but I genuinely can't imagine giving cunnilingus through plastic. Not getting my face wet would destroy the act for me, though I understand why some people choose to err on the side of caution. |

You clearly don't understand how Russian Roulette works. If one in 5 or 6 instances of oral sex was guaranteed to spread an STI, protection would be a lot more widespread, or a lot of people would be doing it a whole lot less. |

This. I would rather not receive a blowjob than receive one wearing a condom. Same for a woman wearing a dental dam. I am not going down on a bit of plastic. Same for a guy wearing a condom. I am not sucking a guy wearing a condom. I want to feel him shoot in my mouth. |

"Justify it if you can but it makes no sense..."
Wibble. Presumably you never cross the road to avoid getting hit by a car, and refuse to walk down the street in case a roof tile should come loose? Everything in life carries risk, it's a matter of weighing up the benefits and potential consequences. |

That is pretty much the odds.. each to their own but not for me... |

Yes and crossing a road taking precautions is much safer than no precautions with sex |

"Risk might be less but still a risk.. why expose yourself to risk..
Live clean.. " driving is a risk.. I choose to mostly stay within the speed limit.. to wear my seat belt etc.. occasionally I decide to go to a track and go far beyond those normal limits... the risk is less than driving at speed on the road but still a risk.
I'd rather do and receive oral without protection.. and not being funny but so far the odds are definitely in my favour... as been swinging for 23years ... I am very very active and often have more than 10 guys a week orally bare... although it's rare I take cum in mouth... and guess what... 23 years of negative results. Yes it's a risk... but one I am prepared to take orally. I wont take the same risk with full sex and the risk is much higher |

Quite some time ago, I had sex with a friend I knew quite well.
I have no reason to doubt he told me the truth:
We had unprotected oral and regular sex with a condom.
A few weeks later, he called me in shock to tell me he had just been diagnosed with chlamydia, he'd had unprotected sex once in the past year (after his last check up). I went in to get tested immediately, and did NOT have it.
My takings from that are that, while the dr at the sex clinic was horribly condemning (my only bad experience at a sexual health clinic, ever) and told me I definitely had it from oral, it is NOT as contagious as claimed. It was not "to completion," this no doubt does make a difference.
If the thought of an infection scares you--use a condom. If you're willing to take the risk, don't.
It's all up to the participants in any situation, and both should agree upfront.

"Do people not get tested regularly for oral a mouth swab every couple of months...." i have mine done every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how active I am... however I'm not always offered throat swabs.. I have to ask

You're probably 100 times more likely to die in a car CRASH or be run ovet on your way to a club than catch an oral STI
That's my outlook on life |

"Ask a man to put a condom on for oral if he moans turn him away. What other risks will he run?" that's rubbish. I wont use condoms for oral but wont have full sex without one. I'd refuse if a guy wanted to use a dental dam on me

"It’s also fine for men to refuse women. I wouldn’t want a blow job from a woman who gives out so many without protection. " it's fine for anyone to refuse anyone. I am well into the thousands I would imagine for oral sex. ( working on 5 a week for 23 years of swinging) but I am always up to date with check ups.. the clinic are also aware of how active I am and advise accordingly.
And actually the lady giving is always at more risk than the guy receiving... but as it's a low risk it's one I'm prepared to take. We are on a site for multiple partners... I don't judge if someone wants to take more or less risks than me. I just do what I'm happy to do.. so for me.. condoms for sex...oral without... but rarely take cum in mouth. Normally on my face..
And I keep myself up to date with current situations via the clinic |

Very wise precaution if you have doubts... In a perfect world where a partners 'history' is known then your concerns may not be as traumatic..
If in doubt, then don't... |

STIs can be asymptomatic and some people can carry them with no side effects but can be cured by antibiotics.
If you're worried about HIV, take PreP once you've been tested within the window period of your last sexual encounter.
Mail me if you want info- it's about £16/mth- peace of mind! |

You can pretty much catch anything from.oral that you can from fucking however it's extremely unlikely to pick up hiv through oral unless gums are bleeding
Since hep c hep b and hiv need to get into the bloodstream don't brush teeth before sex if oral on the cards
Everyone should get a hep A and hep B vaccination and also consider prep
Other important thing is test for sti regularly
The SH24 postal test kits are quick and easy
Happy swinging

I do prefer protected oral both ways until I know a couple properly. We all need to do our bit to drive down STI rates. Never had one and never want one |

Very wise... The 'mortality rate needs to be reduced and then available NHS funds can be directed to a more deserving health issues...
If the selfish individuals were more concerned about the state of their sexual health and removed their brains from their groin, then there would be less of a problem with public funds...I would assume that caution would definitely be observed if any 'treatment' were the responsibilty of every individual...
Yes, I am a 'party pooper' and I hate paying tax / NI contributions too.... |

I only have and would give oral to my partner Never to a guy without i wouldn't hold it against him if he declined and i wouldn't expect him to hold it against me for my request. Their is no right and wrong answer it's personal preference thats the beauty of swinging if you dont have mutual do and dont then you just move on lol |
