so, theres a sub I see from time to time and recently she bought a flogger to be used on her. have used it once on her already but seemed a bit tame as I was getting used to it.
I looked out some porn to get some tips and there is some where it is being used really hard on the back and shoulders as well as the bum.
I wondered if anyone had any advice on how to use a flogger safely but effectively on a sub. I particularly want to know how best to use it on the back and safe ways of doing this.

Don't get your advice from porn.
Is there anybody who can give you a demo? Otherwise get yourself a book or go to a local munch and ask someone also try it out on yourself.

yeah, I suspect that the part of the back between the top of the bum and the beginning of the rib cage is out. too much that can get damaged in there.
will check out the youtube vids. thought they would be to "rude" for youtube so hadn't looked there before. |

Flogging is one of those things that's easy to pick up but hard to master. The same general safety tips apply such as avoiding certain areas (the kidneys being the main one as others have said) as with any other bdsm activity, but beyond that you're relatively safe.
As with anything you try, read around it first, start slow, and continually check in with your sub (I use RAG or 1-10, as well as safewords or gestures).
The bum is the most obvious place, but if you've got a softer flogger (i.e. not heavy leather) breasts and genitals are fine provided you're considerably more gentle. If you're feeling particularly devilish, the inner thighs and soles of the feet are incredibly sensitive, though everyone's different so remember that communication is king in all things kink! |

Imo... Stay away from PVC type floggers, they're sharp and sting. Not good for a first timer x |

rest assured that in NOT going to hurt my sub. that is one thing that isn't going to happen. I actually worship her too much for that to happen and the reason for this post was to add to the knowledge I already have on this topic from others with more experience than me.
learning and improving is what I'm after. thanks for helping out with that.

the flogger is a leather one, pretty good quality, not cheep and nasty for my girl, so might be too heavy for genitals.
I liked the tips of ... using it on the feet too (hadn't thought of that), flicking it like a towel (might save that for later, when master level has been attained, much later), we have talked about a cane before (not for her personal tastes) and although I'm not looking to turn her ass black and blue I am looking to make it satisfying for her, or at least, memorable.

Nothing really to do with flogging, but the most memorable scene I think we've ever done involved a lot of sensation play. She was blindfolded and laid on her front as I alternated between dripping hit wax on her back, running an ice cube across her back, my fingers, and a pinwheel. Nothing painful as such but not being able to see an determine the cause of the sensation turned her into a sobbing mess very quickly

To me there is no part of the body that cannot be flogged. What matters is how you do it. A common mistake it the assumption that flogging it all about hitting someone and or pain, whereas the truth is it's about sensations and sensations come in all different shapes and sizes.
As has been said Don't get your advice from porn, at least not when starting out, find people who know, learn about the flogger you are using, feel it and learn how it works and most of all use it with respect. Good luck and all that jazz  |

On YouTube Aemelia Hawke has some great videos on flogging. She also has an excellent DVD for purchase.
Some people practise flogging either with a pillow or cushion on the bed with a badge on it and practice hitting the badge. I use a pillow suspended at body height.
I would also recommend again on YouTube The erotic art of flogging by Orpheus Black.

Aemelia Hawke also makes and sells floggers. I have a pair of her's and they are very good. handmade of lambs leather, so softer than cow hide. So you can use them across a greater range of force: from sensual stimulation to full on had flogging, which hurts.
Just work with your sub and see what they like/dont like. A true master know it is their sub that is in control and the masters job is to extract the maximum sub's pleasure out of the sub. It is not beating the hell out of them aka 50 shades of shite. |

Agree with this, fractionation between soft and harder, building the harder slowly and fractionation the softer to compensate.
Almost like a ratchet effect. The harder the blows, the softer the soothing.. plus don’t use a pattern, you should never loose “unknowing” anticipation. |

Ive made a couple of flogger type toys using a heavy gauge rubber, I found this gives off a more thuddy impact compared to the lighter Faux leather ones you normally get which are a tingly sting kind of feel,
The rubber one I made with slightly longer stands, I’ve found you can flick your wrist a little to spread the strands across the entire back area or the bum for a more softer sensual touch or you can definitely go all out with it for full impact play, it also has a good sound to it which she likes when she’s blindfolded.
Im definitely no expert, but I find floggers to be quite versatile, and the more senses you can touch on during playtime the better the experience, it’s not just about slapping the sub into next week!
I’ve made a leather strap one which offers a more stingy slap which is quite a nice sting so you do get different sensations from different materials,
I have ordered some bison leather to make a another long strand flogger with to see how it compares to the rubber one so my advice for what it’s worth is test out different ones as they all offer different sensations.

My main advice would be don't get ideas my porn! Please!
For starting, the bum is better than the back. With the back you risk more wrap-around which can cause injury.
If more pain is required, the upper thigh / lower bum is good. Again, be careful of wraparound, this time between the legs.
I would not underestimate the value of starting 'tame.' It simply means you will probably be able to go for longer, possibly increasing in intensity as you do. |
