If the least we can do is a poppy for the bravery of all those brilliant men and women who put their lives on the line for us all it would be a poor day for humanity.
Thanks to all of you, I will be eternally grateful. |

Agree..... total respect to those who serve and those who continue to serve. We owe them more than we can say.
Mind you...The biggest problem with visiting a swingers club at this time of year is finding somewhere to wear the poppy..!! |

I can do no better than quote R L Binyon
...
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

THE INQUISITIVE MIND OF A CHILD
A Poem for Remembrance Day
Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
For the men who marched away.
But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.
But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.
The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the men who never came back.
But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
I

The service and sacrifices made and given by those of the services, be they armed forces, police, fire or ambulance. Where others put themselves in danger so we can live our lives as we do are greatly appreciated by us and such a poignant poem for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. |

Having been a pad brat in Hong Kong with both my mother and father serving, to my husband who I met whilst he was serving and to my eldest son currently serving, I've nothing but pride for the old and bold.
I for one will certainly remember them.......... |

"All for peoples rights not to wear the poppy as much as for people to wear it
Pointless post
Nice to see some tolerance for opposing views."
I have no tolerance on this issue, people who argue against the poppy annoy me with their Britain-hating virtue signalling. Men and women went through hell to give this country freedom, I will not forget |

What freedim was that? The freedom to have opposing views or not? And the poppy now is about more than remembering the two world wars, it is also about those who took part in questionable conflicts and outright murder in different parts of the world .Turning a blind eye to this is insulting those who died during those two terrible conflicts. |

People with opposing views would do well to keep them to themselves on days like today. The fact that someone would pipe up on a pro poppy forum post with negativity suggests a will to provoke, they don’t deserve tolerance |

I can't properly express my gratitude for all the servicemen and women who have given so much just so I can go about my mundane life. To those who have served or are you have my upmost respect and gratitude. |

This is a forum open for all, if you do not like someone using their right to free speech then please say so, I am sure that those who fought for freedom during the two world wars will applaude you |

why would you not wear one"
Money raised from the poppy appeal goes to soldiers who have served in recent times. As someone from the six counties I would not want any of my money going to soldiers who have been responsible for crimes here. Nor would I commemorate those British soldiers who died here. No problem with others doing it but we have the right not too. |

I keep hearing this from people.
On here and other social media.
Presenting themselves as victims of people who would deny them their freedom to wear a poppy.
Yet I never once do I see or hear anyone ever make any such argument.

People in the armed forces have the sickest humour in the world. We don't get offended that easy |

Personally I think your post is a nonsense.
This ex soldier is happy to see a poppy worn with pride, respect, and understanding anywhere.
For those who gave their lives, on all sides, regardless of race creed or colour.
Lest we forget.

That’s the sex site that we’re all on is it?
As for disgusting and despicable (that’s the correct spelling btw) behaviour - take your bloody dirty shoes off the seat opposite in the train thank you very much. Some poor bugger is going to come and sit on that when you’ve finished with it.

Grateful and humbled to see admin. put the Poppy on the site each year. It means so much to those of us serving and who have served, more so those of us who've lost friends along the way. I'll forever also remember my next door neighbour, now long gone - a tough but gentle man who had been at Arnhem Bridge. Forever an inspiration to me.
So many missed, but always remembered - every day, not just the one day.
Thank you to all who ensure the Poppy remains the symbol it was always meant to be. |
