It's entirely possible to 'enjoy life at late 40+ without HRT but doctors will prescribe it short term for certain menopausal symptoms.

Me! Changed my life and I wouldn’t want to be without it now. My sex drive is higher than it was 20 years ago and I feel great. I’m going to be 60 in a couple of months and feel years younger.

I do understand that it’s not suitable for everyone but I’ve only positive things to say.

Ladies, may I ask are there more than 1 type of hrt? (Eg like there are different antibiotics). I’ve tried hrt before and it didn’t work with me. I’m on tablets to help with my flushes but doesn’t help with the other issues. Or how do the patches work and are the any good? I’m 43 and been going through the change for 6 years. Thanks ladies xxx

Presumably you're unable to for various reasons?

Personally I wouldn't have HRT, although some women swear by it.

I'm just a grumpy, tearful, forgetful, clumsy, hotflushing bitch

Yes, there are different types and you often have to try a few before you find the one that works for you.

The type your GP prescribes will be based on your medical history ie: have you had a hysterectomy, are you menopausal or perri menopausal etc.

There is a wealth of information on the internet and it’s well worth a read.

Brief reply but hope it helps

I heard Joan Collins is still on it & if it's good enough for Joanie at her age with the energy she has & looking the way she does, it's good enough for me!

At least we can still recognise her unlike some other actresses half her age!

If your Doctor wont prescribe u HRT go see another who will, and v strange for him/ her to say they dont do HRT anymore! Thousands apon thousands of women take it! If i need to take it when the time comes i may not who knows but i have no issues with taking it! & i will get it from whatever doctor who will prescribe it! .

I was taking it as part of fertility treatment. After embryo was transferred, they put me on HRT. Apparently it Helps to keep the pregnancy established.

No unfortunately not. The embryo passed away at 6 weeks of pregnancy. I didnt know that at that time though. I didn't have a miscarriage until 12 weeks of pregnancy. I had a scan which showed what happened.

HRT and another medication had to be taken twice a day for 12 weeks. Soon as the medication stopped, I officially miscarried.

I was a surrogate mother for my friends who can't have kids. Which made me feel even more terrible.

Thank you. Well we knew the HRT worked because the fertility clinic prescribes them to everyone who has an embryo transfer. Until then, I didn't realise HRT could be used for this purpose. When they first prescribed it, I wasn't happy because you hear about all the horrible side effects. Due to my health being 100% and my age, they said I would be fine on it. I was. I had no side effects.

Has anyone else?

Yep, I'm on Evorel 75 patches it's brilliant. Prescribed post-hysterectomy/oopherectomy and it's a lifesaver. It protects bones in post menopausal women as well as helping to control the other nasty symptoms.

However, not everyone can take HRT so ask to be referred to a gynae-endocrine specialist. They're the experts in menopause and hormones. Pm me for the details of the guy I see.

Massive thankyou ladies

Just really inquisitive to see the percentage of women on fab using HRT( possibly higher libido etc!)

I’m not taking HRT ( unable due to circumstances) but really delighted to see women over 40! Enjoying sex more than ever!

( rather than being labelled “over the hill”as our previous generations have succumbed) xx

I've been taking estrogen only in tablet form for a month now, it's made a massive change for the better with my symptoms. I didn't need combined hrt as I had a mirena coil. I would definitely recommend it if you are suffering. X

Can’t wait to remind her she’s too old when she turns 40! Hehehe

My sex drive has never been higher

My mum uses a progesterone cream which has really helped her as she was really suffering after they stopped her having hormonal contraceptives.
