I’ve always rang the booking line and booked ahead with a card but I’m pretty certain you can pay by cash. Maybe ring the reception for the specific hotel and ask about paying in cash?
They are normally 9-5 or 10-6
Village Hotels, Ibis, Travel Lodge... etc etc. They all do it when they’ve got space they just don’t advertise it on their websites |

Not the back of a supermarket by the bins, at least.
