I need help, I’m a type 2 diabetic and the tablets I have to take are destroying my mojo. It’s cost me my marriage and although I’ve met a new girl my performance is massively affected, when it happens at all! It doesn’t matter how horny I am it’s really difficult to maintain erection and it seems to be impossible to cum, even having a wank it can take up to two hours to cum. It’s really impacting my self confidence and to be honest is down right depressing. I used to wank several times a day and was always horny now I’m afraid to seek a meet as I just know I’ll end up not being able to stay hard. Any advice would be appreciated folks

Have you spoken to your doctor about it? There will be medication that can help, I'm sure.

...Up on the Downs

Look seriously into dietary management of the diabetes if you haven't, if it is type II - dietary management (eg low carb) may reduce or remove the need for meds in many cases.

I think you'll find some good info in the Diabetes.co.uk website, as I may not be allowed to put the link search for

"Diabetes and Erectile Dysfunction" on the site.

When you get there, there are also related topics under 'Read this next'

I was type 2 3 years ago and 20kg heavier than I am now.. I think the secret is to eat healthier, exercise a lot more and think positive.. A lot of your mojo is in your head so its key to thinking positive and cracking type 2 more than anything else..

Once cracked everything else starts falling back into place..

Its all about little steps, leading to a big change..

Good luck anyway

I have male friends with diabetes and the dr asks them about erection issues and offers them viagra at every check up.

So maybe mention it to your dr ?

I have viagra but I also have to take metfoemin gluckizide stiglipitin rosevistatin and a few others as well, reading the side effects of stiglipatin it says it can reduce libido and impare orgasm, so am looking really for advice on anything I can take to boost my libido. I do try and control my sugar levels but they do stay constantly high. I’ve tried insulin injections but they made me really ill. To be honest it’s really getting me down

This must be awful for you but as others have said a different diet can reverse type 2 diabetes. Look into the 5/2 diet. Or just cut out all refined carbs. Take up exercise try Joe wicks HIIT on YouTube it's free and only takes 20 mins. If you not eating any sugar or carbs that the body converts to sugar you levels will really drop. If you don't do something about it you will have a lot of awful health issues in later life. Do something now before its too late. Good luck

So you want to take more medication to counterbalance the effects of medication you are already taking for a condition you could control with diet and exercise?

Erectile dis function will be the least of your worries when you go blind or have lower limbs removed!!!

It might sound harsh but it's the truth no point prettying it up.

Sort out your diet and exercise and stop being a drain on the NHS. You'll also we well again

Where did he ask for more meds ?

He asked for help with his libido

Saying someone is a drain on the NHS because they find it difficult to control their diabetes is a little insensitive, especially when you know nothing about the guy, the background of his illness or his circumstances

It could well be that other factors are at play too, besides his medical condition

Im type 2 diabetes and the meds do effect your mojo ,it's done it to mine, the low carb diet is ok if you can affored a lot of the food and don't have allergy ,mine was caused through other underlying cause not over weight like most small minded people think it is ,there are a lot of very over weight people who do not have it and it seems unfair ...

OP I can't advise on ED but do have experience of type 2 diabetes.

You are pretty young to be on so many medications for it. You really need to sort out your diet and exercise to get control of the diabetes. If you don't you are at very high risk of complications. Whether or not you can get an erection will be the least of your worries.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes age 34. I did take metformin initially but it didn't have much effect on my glucose levels. I decided to take control of my condition because I wanted to live a long and healthy life. I took up exercise and lost nearly 7 stone and pretty much reversed my diabetes. My levels hover just under 7 which is considered pre-diabetes but I do have to keep my diet in order to stop them rising. I am quite strict because I don't want to be dependent on medication for the rest of my life and I certainly don't want to go blind, lose a limb or get kidney failure because of something I can control!

I have lost over ten stone since being diagnosed many years ago, before then I was a very fit and active soldier. My medications are not really controlling my condition and my specialist thinks I may have a genetic condition that is resulting in high blood sugar levels as the meds and even insulin injections did not curb the effects. I’m currently 13 stone and being six foot tall I wouldn’t consider myself obese I eat healthy and am reasonably fit so don’t see how that’s a drain on the nhs. I was just looking for advice on anything anyone had found that boosted their labido, being this open about such a personal matter especially on a site such as this was difficult enough without being vilified for my unwanted condition.

You don't "buy" low carb food!!!! That's the reason a lot of people have diabetes. Looking at quick food fixes, ready meals etc. You just don't eat food that contains high level of carb!!!

If you needed to loose 10 stone when you were diagnosed then clearly you were very over weight! Do you not think that maybe you've already done the damage to your body?

If a smoker came on here moaning they had cancer and the drugs were ruining their libido, what do you think people would say? They then say "but I gave up 10 years ago"!!! The damage has already been done!

You also said "you TRY" to control your sugar intake! That infers you're not doing to well with that.

If you don't want people to give you an honest opinion, don't post on a forum. It's a medical condition, see your doctor!!

Vitamin supplements maybe ?

You have absolutely no need or indeed no right to lay into this guy in the way you have

None

OP, as someone said above, you are on A LOT of medication for your age and body size

A Doctor is in a better place to advise you over the issues you are having

You need to address it before it drives you any more demented than it already is

Mental health issues, specifically depression, are another side effect of diabetes

Relationships are built on more than sex. Your new partner will adjust to the sexual situation, but add in your mental concerns over a protracted period and history may just repeat itself

Please take the steps to address your diabetes and your mental wellbeing - the two are interlinked in an unhealthy way at the moment

You may need some counselling as well as health remedies

This takes time to put into place and take effect

In the mean time, take steps of your own - improve your diet, take long walks, if you swim, get in the pool, some light gym work, yoga, pilates

As well as the health benefits of these things, the mental headspace they clear is quite staggering

You do need to take control though

What's gone is gone

Look forwards, not backwards
