So as we all know the, the first message is the crucial to grabbing attention. Now, what is the general consensus to a good first message? I personally go for a slightly tame but respectable first message that isn't vulgar or too vivid to try and be a little chivalrous to start with, however they very rarely have success. These things work in the dating world, however they don't seem to work on here anymore, have times changed? |

There and to the left a bit |
There is no catch all magic formula that is guaranteed to work OP - different people like different things - on the rare occasions I send "cold" messages I usually introduce myself, say why I'm writing, pick something out of their profile to comment on and leave a couple of questions dangling to give them something to respond to and invite them to take a look at my profile and chat further if they want to.
Of the 6 cold messages I've sent I've had 5 replies so it works for me.
Remember that people will often look at a profile and pics before deciding to respond so make sure yours is enticing and helps you stand out from the crowd |

This poster is right, responding to somthing in someone’s profile or update seems to work with a question worth answering to bring give them a reason to reply. |

You seem to be an attractive, reasonably articulate young man, who doesn't take things too seriously; based on your profile. I would say get yourself to clubs and in the forums.
Both give you an opportunity to get your personality across.

A lot of women and couples have said before they read your message they read your profile. If your profile is shit your message is not getting read. |

This advice is great! As a single female - I am far more likely to respond to something like this - as it shows an effort to read the profile and find a mutual connection point as well as understanding why this person is messaging.
Cold msgs after just looking at pics result in crass and crap pointless msgs being sent - I just delete those! |
