Kestrels, as it was, is permanently closed. Such a shame as it was fantastic and the closest club to us here on the south coast. Nothing compares to it

Seeing kestrels is shut you would think Eurekas would modinise as it would be only place that could match kestrels but it’s so dated there and does need loads of money spent on the club house

Eurekas doesn't have the same 'vibe' as Kestrels - plus it's a massive trek for us as it's in the back of beyond.

We've been a couple of times and just didn't feel comfortable there. I guess not all places suit all people.

We're gutted that out favourite club has gone for good

Sadly we agree with 'scummy'. It smelt damp and mouldy in clubhouse & felt run down. Definitely could do with a deep clean... We left after 1 drink.

Shame as great location.

Thanks guys. I was really hoping someone was going to enlighten me with a new fantastic club that I wasn’t aware of! still it seems that my thoughts about eureka are quite widely shared.. it is a shame as it could easily be the club that kestrels was with a bit of cash and a bit of elbow grease!

Fingers crossed that the kestrels team find something suitable! Perhaps they should take over eurekas!!!

dated you say , we go to enjoy the facilities and the people why should it matter that they don't have marbled toilets and cold taps ect.

much the same as the people once you've parked your rolls Royce or your skoda in the carpark go into a club and get naked we then all appear the same without our expensive suits and brief case or boiler suits and tool box.

just wondering if the sex would be better if they had velvet wallpaper and a gold chanderlier

Fyi, eureka was recently quoted in the press as not being a sex club so with this in mind surely the quality of the environment are more important than sex?

Can't see anyone moaning about decor... this seems to be more about cleanliness & hygiene. Parts of that place were actually filthy. Hard to see when it's so dark but I'm not rolling around in that naked!

They seem to be stuck in no man's Land as they cannot be called a naturist club as they are adult only

In a nutshell that’s why Eureka is still going strong. They respect the parish council and local planning restrictions. It’s been there years and will continue to do so.

When I’ve mentioned the odd mess or dirt the staff have been quick to clean it up. Being in a forest setting the venue has a completely different feel in the winter than summer. It has a loyal following, well attended all year long and puts on different nights and weekend events to appeal to swingers and naturists alike.

The management spent money remodelling the common parts and bar area last autumn.

Rather than complain after the fact why didn’t people talk to the staff? What made you feel scummy?

I am an extremely fussy lady. Cleanliness is paramount for me and I dnt have a problem with Eureka if it gets grubby it's the people attending make it so. The toilets after a party are dreadful and it's the poor staff who have to go clean it up. So maybe as you do in your own home be more courteous and hygiene friendly when using the facilities. I've been going for over two years and they have done updates but difficult to please everyone. Party nights are always done with such care.

Sorry to hear you think of the club in this way but each to their own

The reason they cant be called a naturist venue is because they aren't. They are clothing optional, which isn't naturist, this is one of the reasons why the British naturist society wont entertain them, the other being they are a sex club and the BOS know it. Now there is nothing wrong with a sex club, far from it, but say what you are and do it properly!

We didn't really want to pile in here as others have said what needed to be, but.

The toilets were disgusting and to suggest people should be more respectful is perfectly reasonable. Equally, this applies in the reverse.

It is the businesses, and this is a business, responsibility to clean!

We arrived early evening and the toilets looked as though they had not seen even a cloth let alone a mop and bucket.

They had been left from the morning until the evening, uncleaned. If they had been cleaned in between then they need cleaning more often.

We were thinking about revisiting this club again but after reading this post.

We will try another, like Mingles, read their reviews, spotless after spotless comments.

Sitting here in Spain, what a pain the morality police in the UK councils are. Here swingers clubs, gay clubs, brothels etc. are not just tolerated but seen as public utilities. There will never be the investment in the UK needed to offer the great clubs we have here in Spain when they can be closed down on a planning officer's whim. Incidentally, note that gay spas in the UK are never closed down.... that would be discriminatory. But swingers are fair game.

We sometimes get the feeling there is an attitude of 'there is too much of it around and I'm not getting enough' in the UK. Maybe they need to go to the Netherlands for training on tolerance.

Full marks to the owners for running Kestrels against the odds. We really hope they get to open again.

Can’t believe what I’ve been reading on here. People seem to have forgotten that Kestrels were asking members for money to open a new club. There were many repairs needed doing there, the pool was filthy with black mould which was only removed after too many members complained about it. There were many accidents with people slipping on the floor getting in and out of the pool. Many of us witnessed rats running around, in fact there was a whole group of us in the pool when a baby rat ran around the perimeter of the pool. The cladding around the hot tubs was falling to bits, the dungeon reeked of urine, the toilets were a mess with urine on the floor (changing room one was particularly one to avoid). The heating was only put on for Abfab on Friday and Saturday nights, rest of the time you froze.

Eurekas has a much higher attendance and frankly do very well considering. The grounds are well kept, the pool is clean and free from certain body fluids, they don’t run out of room for sunbathing, toilets are checked and cleaned regularly. The spa area is kept clean and the floor is regularly dried to avoid accidents. Looks tired? I wonder how many other clubs you have all visited as trust me there are plenty of others that are awful. They don’t provide waterproof covered beds for a start in many places. The food is good and good value for money. The staff are totally on the ball when it comes to members being pestered - hence why it rarely happens.

The overnight accommodation is clean, comfortable and affordable.

Entry prices are also a lot cheaper Many men complained about the £50 entry fee at Kestrels which to be fair it was too high.

The staff work damn hard to make it a good place to go and personally as a single woman, I feel totally comfortable going there on my own just to chill and relax.

We hadn't been for a while so maybe the rats, urine ,mould etc were a recent phenomenon as we certainly didn't see any of the aforementioned .

We liked it as it was relatively close (and a damn site closer than Eureka) and well run .

Yes,we were also asked for money for a new club and yes,we have also been to Eurekas ,we didn't go much on it as we thought it was naturist and ,when we were there , everyone was dressed .

Kestrels was very much nudist and that we liked .

Horses for courses .

The Kestrels owners were given fairly hefty fines, (if you believe what you read in the papers,) so I suspect it unlikely.

This is merely my opinion - I have no facts, nor inside knowledge, so don't quote me.....

As for the well turned out grounds I walked the lower path a month or so ago and there was a sewage spill caused by damaged drainage.

If you went for a spa day in a vanilla spa and found that the pool was green would you be happy?

If I've paid for something I expect the facilities to be fit for service.

If I want to swim in a green pool I'll find a pond and jump into one of those.

"Can’t believe what I’ve been reading on here.

At least the pool at Kestrels never turned green..

As for the well turned out grounds I walked the lower path a month or so ago and there was a sewage spill caused by damaged drainage.

So you see everywhere has it's faults."

And if you walk the same lower path at Eureka then you’ll see it’s dug up with new drains being installed and well on its way to being fixed.

That's funny you visited many times and said how good it was!!!!! .....now it's closed all you can do is say nasty things about it....."

That’s a strange comment to make considering I don’t know you. I actually stopped going over a year before it closed

If they are trying to find a new venue then it does seem ironic thathe council are helping them. Having said that, the problem was that the council found erections on the premisis that had not had the appropriate planning permission granted. Perhaps if the place was less "adult" the council may have allowed them retrospective planning permission but there are probably residents in the area that didn't like the club. It is a shame as I did enjoy going there. Always seemed clean and tidy when I was there and I don't recall the dungeon ever smelling of piss. But then things may have drifted once the writing was on the wall. Have been to Zeus in Slough but it's not a patch on Kestrels with no outdoor area and not much on the way of play rooms. Or, for that matter, people who visit.

It would be great if there was, or became, a similar venue in this region (Berks, Oxon area) as I am sure it would be popular.

I happened to have a accident at kestrels and the staff where on the scene within seconds (I did go down with a big bang) they looked after me till I was ok and wrote a accident report. The only downside was the lies and gossip the staff who looked after me spread after the fact.

I've been going to Eurekas quite regularly since June this year, so although not a long period of time, I've made enough visits to see how it is. Overall I like the place and am happy enough to keep going back, however, unless it's different during the week to the weekends when I've been, there are a couple of things you say above which haven't been my experience:

* The Eurekas pool can have just the same scummy mould around the top as the one at Kestrels did. The fact it's not under an enclosed roof means you get all sorts of insects, leaves etc. Not so great for swimming in, but admittedly better than (potential) bodily fluid. I have to also say that the staff attitude towards opening the pool could be better, even on sunny days! At least you could guarantee the Kestrels pool was always open.

* Apart from the dungeon, I always found the toilets at Kestrels (note daytime, not evening) of a good standard of cleanliness. Haven't noticed anything different at Eurekas.

* In complete contrast to what you say above, the floor of the wet area at Eurekas constantly has pools of water on it. I have NEVER seen it being mopped when I've been there. In fact I've both overheard and had several conversations with others remarking on how difficult it is to get changed in that area using the seats without your feet having to be in water.

As I say, don't get me wrong, I really like the place and enjoy the facilities but it has its faults just like any other. Let's not get too carried away about it.

"She was actually banned from kestrels a few months before it closed, hence the imaginary rats story,if there were rats it would have been known on fab,and kestrels would have been closed down alot sooner by environmental health.

She use to love kestrels like everybody else and never said a bad word about the place till her ban

"

Sorry, but the rat story is true. I saw the rats on more than one occasion

They had pest control in and the bait boxes were clearly visible around the swimming pool/smoking area.

I loved Kestrels and miss the place so much

Sutton

I think there were Eurekas people and there were Kestrels people, and the two never agree.

From my own point I started at Rios but once I discovered Eurekas I never went back

Likewise once discovered Kestrels I never went back to Eurekas apart from for O&I.

It is a question of acceptance of preferences without being abusive.

I actually think all these people claiming to know me or cite that I was banned from Kestrels really need to get their FACTS straight.

The rat incident around the pool - there was actually a member of staff (off duty) in the pool with her friend and she got out to try and catch it but was unsuccessful. A male member of staff came in and informed us that poison had been put down.

IF I had been banned it’s news to me as I was never told this. It was my own choice to go elsewhere after a rather nasty incident happened to me at the club (with witnesses that reported it I would add). Maybe it wasn’t a year, give or take a couple of months if you want to be petty about it. It is amusing that these comments come from women that don’t like me - am I bothered? NO! . Just keyboard warriors.
