Just made a homemade spreader bar from a wooden broom handle with screwbolts at either end. Has anyone got any ideas what I can use to attach the ankles to the bolts?

Natural rope, of the appropriate diameter. Run it through the washing machine a couple of rimes and then tumble dry to soften it. Bind the ankles, without cutting off the circulation, and attach to the spreader.
Ensure that you have a pair of safety scissors to hand in case of emergency e.g. panic in your partner, a blue/cold foot, or the house catching fire. |

Please don't try to just bind the ankles with rope. You need to be able to tie a knot that won't tighten and cause injury - Google "Somerville Bowline" for an easy and reliable knot of this type. |

Avoid rope unless you know what you are doing. Buy some buckle or velcro fastening cuffs. Worth the investment. Even small dog collars would be better than potentially risking injury with the incorrect rope technique. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

By crikey; it’s like Blue Peter for grown ups in here. Here’s one I made earlier. Brilliant. |

Did some with 15&22mm copper pipe plus a few fittings along with those spring clips that they use in crutches so it's extendable too. I used a couple raw-bolt eye to fasten some cuffs onto. Sprayed them black and they work and look the business. |
